Air Intake

Have a question. I'm sure this has been answered but couldn't find it on here. I was curious why there are 20 dollar air intakes on ebay and then there is also 200 dollar intakes on there. Is there really that big of a difference in them and am i just wasting my money buying a 20 dollar one. I would have to assume yes since its only 20 bucks but kind of curious,

you can get the $20 intakes, just make sure you go get a K&N filter to replace the one that comes with it.

im guessen that $20 ones are short ram intakes with a bad filter, while the $200 aem ones are true cold air intakes that mount down by the duct in the bumper(colder air) and have the aem filter

Guess what? There's no difference in performance...

With the eBay special super type-R racing whatever they call them, the only piece worth the money, sometimes, is the MAS adapter. Then it's whatever filter you want as long as the inner diameter matches up. And yes, they usually don't have any CAI's since they don't do R & D on the piping angles and what not.

^lol exactly. don't waste your money, just get the cheap one, it will sound just as good and give just as much power.

why do you say that? the aem should have a little more because its in the bumper causing there to be fresh air whereas sri is still under the hood in the engine bay

CAI replaces throttle response with colder air.

it doesn't make a difference on our car. any type of intake will only add about 1 horsepower,. CAI or SRI, either way the power increase is the same

^haha, very true but i still think that a cai will give it a tad more cuz its pulling in colder air, it might only be .5 whp. haha but its still more, but id have to agree. not worth the money

theoretically yes, but in practice no. its the same with all bolt ons.
basically with our cars, all headers are the same, all cat backs are the same, all intakes are the same. no matter how expensive they are, the gains are the same across the board.......1-5hp

The only intake that really ever caught my eye was the RMR SRI. Basically just the huge filter inlet and the heat shield with snorkel duct piece was what i wanted. Fabbed up a cheap one with aluminum flashing from Home Depot, but I doubt that stuff would hold a weld so haven't tried.

I assume that lancerrally45's whip is turbo, so yes, on your application it would make a bigger difference than our little NA grandma motors.

Well i'm sure you don't want to run a $20 filter on your car for long. Piping is the same whether its made by aem or a cheap ebay seller. A filter though is a bit more complex so I would trust one with a brand name like K&N

Don't know how regional they are, but Advance Auto Parts has AEM dryflow filters for less than $50 after tax.
