factory intake mods??

with all the different things going around about how complicated making a custom intake is (because of MAF sensor issues) and the descrepency about the RRM short ram sucking hot air..i have been left with no other choice then to either leave my car intake stock , or find possible mods i can make to the stock intake that will create more power and save me some money..so that hopefully one day when they come out with a cold air intake i wouldnt have wasted my money on a custom or short ram intake so if anyone has any mods...or ideas or theorys or anything pertaining to this subject id like to hear it!!

also, i have removed the plastic hood latch cover that allows more air coming in the grill to funnel into the scoop and force more air in...seems to help a little, any other kind of mods like this would be great..

save up for a CAI. the same thing occurred when the RSX came out. the k series has the headers in the back also and SRIs came out first. made decent power even though it sucked in hot air. BUT the stock k series head (type s) is quite high flowing. haven't seen great gains from the 4B11 SRIs yet. could be the stock head isn't up to par, in addition to a lot of other factors.

then the CAI started coming out and made more power. only thing is you have to relocate battery and installation is more involved. but really, after the CAI comes out nobody gets the SRIs anymore unless you really can't afford a CAI or don't like moving the battery, etc.

the RSX is a honda of course so product development was hella quick to sell to all the ricers too bad the lancer isn't too high on tuner's lists...

Either wait for a CAI to come out or enjoy the options available.

Honestly, I'm very happy with the RRM SRI. But that's just me. Everyone does what they like.

CAI or FWI... after this long I am a bit surprised no one has one out yet. Moving a battery is a pain, sure, but not exactly impossibly tough either and surely there is a market for a sub 300 buck CAI (*raises hand for one*)

As far as FACTORY INTAKE MODS, I just took off the plastic air tunel and i also took off the plastic latch cover to force more air into the engine bay instead of those small slits for the air tunel..I also added mesh from a screen door to cover the hole in the airbox....my question is while driving in heavy rain fall will all these mods affect my engine by sucking water moisture and possibly flooding my engine ..jus want second oppinion.

i ended up taking the radiator cover off too, and the plastic scoop and i guess its as good as it gets with out buying a aftermarket intake, but i highly doubt water will make it all the way back into the airbox, removing the plastic cover lets some air in...not alot thought if you look at the bottom of your hood their is a piece of rubber weather stripping and it prevents alot of air, and probly all the water that could possibly make it back there, and even if some does slip past there is still a long way to go before it would make it to the airbox
