Recieved my camshaft today!
you want the manual no matter what because it is the more aggressive cam. the auto has a cam with retarted exhaust timing so you would not gain anything and might even lose power which is not what you are looking for. I drive an auto as well but I am looking to source a cam like this as well, for a shop that will do timing belt, water pump, cam, etc for $300, had good luck with them and they do very good work so this is an awesome opputunity for me haha. so I will be keeping my eye on this thread =)

I'm sorry for the previous, mis-leading post! All you'd need to do is:
1. Set the crank/cam gear to TDC.
2. Remove T-belt.
3. Remove coil packs & wires.
4. Remove valve cover.
5. Remove valve train bolts. *Heres where I have no proof, since I've never cracked open a Lancer head; but on my Civic, I remove 14 bolts and simply lift up and remove the entire assembly as one piece.
6. Remove the camshaft.
If you're afraid of messing up, then by all means have someone else with more experience do this. But if you simply remove the vc, you can get a better idea of how exactly the assembly is held in place.

BTW, lube that "dry" camshaft good in oil or assembly lube over night.
