hard to say, i think they are already irridum. I would say not by much. The reason your car isnt starting is due to a fault in your start up sequence. I have had prefectly good start ups aborted 1 1/2 seconds into it. I have had it explained to me that the car is just more fussy when it comes to starting up compared to cars in the past.

Not sure if the tech was pulling my leg. but the next time it happens, turn your car to the on position for 5 seconds or so, then crank it. It should start if not get it on video and bring it to your dealer if its a persistant issue. it happens to me once a month

Hasn't happened to me a single time. Then again my car only has 3000 miles.

Hummm when my fuel pump had a link in my volvo, I needed to turn the key for 5 sec to let the pressure build up in it, then start. If not, It was taking like 10 secondes to start (really hard on the starter and battery).
So I don't know about the lancer problem since I don't have it, but if you need to put the key to on before I don't think (without being a mecanics) that the spark are the problems..
