tip is not really relavant, unless the tip size and the straight thru size of the muffler it self are the same. A hint to the size of the muffler chamber / straight thru is if the muffler employs a insert for a silencer. But to be honest there are so many different variations out there that sometimes its hard to messure or know what effect it will have on the incoming flow from the inlet all the way thru.

reading that article gives you an idea of what kind of maze exhaust flow has to go thru when it reaches the muffler.

The only thing you should really think about when it comes to axle back systems is. What is your stock pipe size 2) your inlet size of your mufflers piping 3) chamber type (straight thru design / canister /etc....), 4) taking bends and curves in the pipe as well as length all these factors have an effect on flow. both forwards and backwards. not many people know that exhaust flow is bi directional in a pipe.

This is why you should not open up to large too soon. in some designs, where your pipe diameter changes can be all the difference.

hi there kinkbmxry, If am not sure what those numbers are refering to?
OD =outdiamiter? and ID is inlet?

if so that would conflict with what is on that website for the details about the pipe?

can ya let me know what those numbers are refering too.

i am a little confused, so this exhaust is a 2.25" inlet / muffler or not? If its 2.25" then I think that website should update the specs.

You're close.

When you're talking about tubing diameters, you have to take into account the actual tube. So the outer diameter is the size of the tube. If you slapped a set of calipers on the actual exhaust pipe, it would be the OD. The ID is the inner diameter. This is the diameter inside the tube (the space taken up by air). If you put a caliper inside the pipe and measured that distance, you have the ID. So, in the example above (2.25 ID, 2.5 OD), the actual piping is 0.125" thick (since you double it because it's on both sides).

Any of that make ANY sense?

Forgive me, messuring pipes, I go by the internal/inner pipe size.
Maybe its my mistake or wrong way of thinking of it, but i would assume it was the piping size I was looking for. oh well.

For all the times I have quoted 2.25" as the size i use for my DUAL exhaust piping, thats quoting the inner diameter.

Making reference to the inlet of the stock muffler itself that diameter was messured at 2.00 inch's if i remember correctly.

As for this Tsudo its really hard to tell what the straight thru canister is like from far away, does anyone have a like close up of it off the car?

the outer diameter is actually the standard on how exhaust piping is measured... if you try to buy 2.5" exhaust piping anywhere it will be 2.5" OD.

thanks for the headsup, lol I have been running around the garage here and all we talk are internal diameter sizes. I should make that clear in the future. But my question is, I have seen different casts of pipe, external diameter is relavent for fitment and placement of pipes but internal is more relavent for exhaust flow.

In that case I would advise those out there to also check internal diameter size.
