The dealer will always trace EVERY problem back to any/all mods

mods aren't for people who care about warranties.

if your engine blows up then simply bolt all the stock stuff back and then call the dealer. Then can't void your warranty unless they proved your non-stock part caused it, but they can sure deny your claim until you spend thousands of dollars in court to get them to obey the law...

Reading is good for you.
Magnuson Moss Act - this will answer the question fully. This Act is your defense if the dealer tries to refuse service.

Short answer is that any modification that causes a problem will leave to the dealership not warrantying that problem.

The dealer will say anything not to cover a warranty repair. Unfortunately, they are often wrong and it is up to the consumer to be aware of our rights. In general, things that are likely to be replaced during the life of the car can be replaced with non-OEM parts that serve the same function. The warranty is only voided if the replacement parts do not serve the same pupose as the original part.

For instance, a cat back exhaust will not void your warranty. A cat delete will, however.

Replacement clutches are OK, as are brake pads and rotors and high flow air filters.

Also, replacement parts deemed to cause trouble will only void the warranty on that particular part of the car, not the whole warranty itself. If you turbo-charge your engine and the headlight switch fails, they still have to fix the headlight switch.

I bet a lot of dealers will say that the turbo caused an electrical problem or vibration that caused the headlight switch to malfunction.

Actually, an aftermarket clutch can help to void a transmission warranty... Aftermarket Big Brake Kits can void Wheels and Wheel Bearings (think heat transfer)....

But its all up to the service manager to push it through, so get happy with that guy... Get you oil changed at the dealer, buy tires there, establish a past before you need a big warranty claim... They are more likely to help a loyal customer than the Joe Schmo that just walked in for the first time wanting a new "whatever" part just before the warranty is out...

I agree with this 10000%...making friends at the Service dept. is almost as important as servicing the car itself. It can save you a lot of $$$, time and aggravation.
