Switching Oil Types?

The time has come for an oil & filter change. However, I am curious to know if I can switch from normal motor oil to a synthetic motor oil (ex. Valvoline VR1 Motor Oil)? Thanks in advance!

Which type of motor oil would provide the best performance while providing the best protection for my engine?

I'm personally pampering my car with Mobil 5w30, but I'll be switching to a non-synthetic once I go turbo.

1. Some (not all, as a matter of fact, a small percentage of them) are having a little trouble with synthetic. Personally, I use Valvoline 10w30, occasionally Castrol. I only use those two because I know they don't contain parafin, which turns into a waxy build up (which could also build up in your engine). That's just an opinion I inherited from my dad, but it seems to keep our engines running longer than average.

2. Yes, I've heard that once you go synthetic you can't go back to regular, but I don't know why and have never been given a solid reason.

the problem with synthetic is if you get too thin of a synthetic oil the oil pump cannot pump the oil and it will not circulate through your motor and you will probably siese a rod bearing or whatever.

i switched from regular to sythetic then back to regular...15,000 miles so far when i went back to regular and no problems.

I kept the factory oil in for 1000 miles and run the **** out of my stock Lancer with it in. To seat the rings and ****. I changed it out to Mobil1 full synthetic, change it regular every 3000 miles. I drive my car, I love my car, but I do drive the **** out of it. I run Zex 55 shot, not too much boost, but enough to play with. I have all the other upgrades, exhaust, test pipe, throttlebody,, I keep hearing of people blowing there motors up with Zex, I have run 10-15 bottles through my car, and it still drives as good or better than the day I bought it.

I had an NOS setup and my sparkplug electrodes were closing(no gap) because of leaning out. I'd be very careful running juice in these motors. I sold my kit after half a bottle.

It might depend on the car the Evo 8 comes with synthetic and it is required in the car. I know there have been some questions over this but as long as your car doesn’t state that it can not use synthetic you should be okay. On my last car I went to synthetic right after the first oil change.

Other then that Blackmantis is right about synthetics being more expensive.

That was your problem right there. YOu should of used a plug two heat ratings colder than factory. I have also heard that alot of people blew there motor up. I dont know what they did to do it. I have even left posts asking exactly what happened with no response. I would say that a hundred shot would probably fry your pistons, but I think a 55 or 65 shot is relatively safe. you can do the same thing running too much boost. If our cars can handle running six pounds of boost of factory pistons safely than in my opinion a 55 or 65 shot is also safe. I have been tuning for a long time. In my opinion Zex is the safest system out there. Like I said I have run 10-15 bottles through my car and it runs great. I have had some noise coming out of the cluth but I believe this to be the throwout bearing as the noise stop when the clutch is pressed.
