2008 Lancer real crank HP

Hi there guys. I'm a new proud owner of a red 2008 Lancer GTS 5 speed M/T. I have been reading through this forums for a while and its very helpful. I saw somewhere someone say that the 08 is putting down 140 hp to the wheels and that there is only
10 hp difference to crank hp which means that true crank is probably between 160 - 170hp. Do you guys thinks its true? I would like to hear everyone's opinion. Also i'm new to forums, and this is actualy the first time i post anything so if im doing something wrong please let me know. Addicted

it depends on the dyno that it put down 140 to the wheels, but taking those facts into account, if its a dynojet then its chp is prolly around 165ish and if its off of a mustang dyno then its prolly liek 175-180... really though, chp doesn't mean anything and was his lancer stock or modded. good luck congrats on the purchase

Well, some say that the lancer's crank horsepower is underrated but WHP is all that matters.

the SAE standard that manufacturers use is the standard unit for rating engines at the crank. Over the years there have been revisions to the formula/standard but thats it. 152hp is one thing, but getting a stock dyno that reveals 140+ hp at the wheels is a little too high. There is always going to be drive train loss. some say its 15% some say as much as 30%. Different dynos give you different figures. so for a lancer to put out about 125 - 130 sounds about right to me

^what evo_soul said is exactly true. Supposedly the standard that the SAE uses to measure HP has changed for 2008+ cars, and is more strict. I think I remember hearing/ reading a quote in a video/magazine that said if the 08 Lancer used the same standards as cars in 2005, it would have been rated around 167 HP. But crank horsepower is irrelevant, WHP is the only thing that matters when it comes to comparing mods (And even then you should only look at the gain on your car and not compare it to other cars.)

As many have said (i tihnk all actually) crank hp isn't much to base off.. what gets to the wheels is important.. in my opinion, all dynos are really good for is comparisons... given it's the same dyno and all, should be used to compare a stock car to a modded car and possibly to other cars on the same dyno? (don't bash me for this if it's wrong.. ive read some cars are different and all but it shoudl still give a rough comparison between cars).

I don't get the math here...
140 + 10 = 150. not 160-170... unless "crank hp" and "true crank" are 2 different things?

Not meaning to flame or anything. just educating myself by clarifying things that confuse me

Dont listen to anything rated above what the declared manufacturer crank power. 152 is it. If it was rated higher, then that would mean the 2009 GTS would be at or over 200hp, which wouldnt make sense, because I just ran a dyno day and saw what the RSX Type can do after drive train loss.

Not to put anyone down. But this is why I am starting to not like Dyno Jet dynos because of the really ummm high results that come out of "SOME" of them. of course every variable can affect results. but when you see a dyno for a bone stock lancer come up with figures that are less then 10whp away from the manufacturer claim there is something seriously wrong there. Now of course every dynos numbers are going to be different. it comes back down to what a dyno is suppost to be used for. DYNO JET, DYNAPACK Dyno Dynamics, what ever, its all about tuning and getting relavent comparitive results. Some people today just use it as a medium to boast how big your nutz are. Vs. hey I just installed a intake, or an exhaust and it gave me 8% more horsepower.

That is the real point of a dyno. It is impossible to gauge how much drive loss there is from even car to car, let alone for a single car. Because there are competing dyno machine standards that calculate actually whp differently.

Getting back to the Dynojet thing, I dont have a problem with the machine with the way it calculates power. its just the effect that it puts in peoples head, and in a sense miss leads people to think that their car is more superior then others that are the exact same.

It is very true, that a Dynojet and Dyno Dynamics dyno calculate power in very different ways. There are some features on a Dyno Dynamics dyno that from a tuning aspect are better. But to counter the point I am sure there are things that are specific to a Dynojet. same thing for a Mustang dyno and all the other ones out there.

Let me show you my results.

As I work thru my testing of the pulstar plugs with different senarios and conditions, working with the Dyno Dynamics machine has been a real joy to be honest. I think during the dyno day I must have said " I need one of these" like 20 times I think every time we loaded up a car. But to be straight honest, the things you can do with this machine are amazing.

Now I think there have a few reports that the dynos posted of CVT's have been posting lower, and its funny all the lancers that came in for the dyno day were CVTs including mine. But the point is, we were able to all compare results in relative terms. regardless of it reports 130 150 or 115 as the average across all the dyno machine types. Driving home the important thing, its alll about the specific machine and comparing on that. If you take any lancer anywhere in canada or anywhere in the USA that has the FED spec. they are going to perform the exact same way give or take 1% due to factor manufacturing processes. Just cause a DynoJet says one thing and a Dyno Dynamics or Mustang says another, if you take the car configured the same way. Its stil gonna drive just as fast and just as hard. *special not, user upkeep plays a big part in how a car performs over time. But for this senario I am speaking in a more general sense using relatively new properly broken in cars. lol be we all know, even people complain about what is the proper way to break in.

lol thats my two cents

i only wanna know this stuff because a lot of people are saying that 152 is a little low nuber for the size of the car and that its slow. wich i dont think it really is especialy with the M/T. besides the car i had before that was a 2002 2.0 115hp jetta wich i can say was slow. I know that the 0-100km with the M/T is 7.7 sec wich is better than a lot of cars out there. The 08 rabbit is 170 hp and they say it does 0-100 in 7.8 wich i dont see how its 0.1 slower then the lancer considering 20 more hp and a smaller car.

and this is why I get angry, not at you but people look at HP but that only tells half the story, TQ figures are important, if not more important. HP looks good on paper, but TQ wins the day.

i know for a fact that the lancer has to be somwhere in that range..

like i said before in a previous thread..i had a 1998 dodge avenger rated out the factory at 171/173

and my girlfriend got a GTS right around launch and somtimes we would race (legally) and she has a CVT and she would use all D mode right from the start..and i was pretty much pushing my car to its limits..

and me and the lancer were neck and neck all the way to about 75 and then my car would slightly start to pull ahead..

theres no doubt in my mind that this car is a lot more than 152

be very careful with assumtions of this kind. In theory any engine can be tuned. The lancer could be tuned 10 hp more, or less. Actually if you look at the Lancer Fortis/ lancer in Taiwan is I think rated 157hp. And now they have released the sporty version of the Lancer called iO or Lancerio. There is some speculation among contacts in Japan that it may have a second variant that is to be more agressively tuned from the factory in a special addition. All using the same 4B11 from Mitsubishi http://www.lancerio.com.tw/. Now in some cases manufacturers may play with other factors such as compression ratios and minor modifications, but no set number is ever etched in stone in terms of tuning.

To sum it up in as few words as possible. Any car can be tuned to hit a specific hp point within reason. Mitsu has set their car at 152hp here in north america. If they wanted to, I am sure they could hit 10 more with a better tuning profile.

But to claim the engine has more hp at the crank then the manufacturer states is simply not the case, in theory if I got into an accident I could sue mitsubishi for making a stronger car then they advertised. lol ok ok that is laughable, but I have seen stranger lawsuits hit manufacturers and succeed lol.

Hummm you're telling that only with a better tune we could get mayB 10 more ?
In that case, that mean that chips they sells on ebay that give more power are not that bad ? lol
kiddin' , no I mean, if it was the case, some company like RRm or with any car model would make those chips for use to get all top notch power like their piggyback or something. I'm pretty sure you can play a bit without affecting MPG that much, but well.
to be honest I'm a bit sceptic about this.. sound too easy for me.
