What is everyone's fascination with engine swaps? Been reading to much SCC where they're dropping in B18's into Civics all the time? Listen, with a 4G63 from an Evo or even an Eclipse you'll need not only to fab new motor mounts, you'll need a new transmission. Heck, gotta even make sure it fits the correct way in the engine bay. It is not a simple task.

Don't forget the cost of an engine swap P. 4000 easy if not more, good engines are expensive. If you have this much money I recommend you get coil-overs, custom fabricated anti-sway bars, strut tower braces and new wheels. Then get a set of lightened pulleys and a custom flywheel. Then a full exhaust system and full intake system.

loneeemeeee, with all thosem ods ull end up with a car that handles excellent but only sounds fast...engine swap is logical but only if you know your stuff. plus, you would need 3000 in engine mods and other mods to get even close to the power of an engine swap.

Can we just agree that by either pulling a swap or throwing in a turbo, you're going to have to spend excessive amounts of money to get the Lancer up to a good power level. Either way, I still see more problems with dropping in an entirely new/different engine and drive train than with bolting in a turbo.

ill agree....but....i see that its only risky since no one really has done a motor swap with the lancer, so it is still new to us....but....turbo puts pressure on the motor to do better than normal so your wearing your motor out and limiting the life on your motor's reliability....i say turbo for close to 50,000miles then drop a new 4G63T in and let that ride out the rest, youll be able to mod it like crazy and youll have reliability in your hands if it is possible to swap it.

Just for your info.

3G 2.4 liter Eclipse engine should fit.
Evo motor should fit. ECU and harness needed. $3-5K for front clip with motor and trans.

All turbo Eclipse motors 4G63 motors face opposite way, therefore a swap requires huge amount of mods. Engines are readily available but mods would not make it cost effective swap. Plus remember aside from just fabrication needed, including axles, ECU and harnesses would have to be swapped unless you decided to drop another $1000 for stand alone engine management.

They have a few JDM evo engines ready to be dropped. Btw, in most cases JDM engines come with the tranny as well as everything else you need if you order a front clip. I'm sure the swap should be relatively easy if you are using a car with the exact chassis as its counterpart in Japan. I think TP automotive has only evo 3 and 4 engines, so I think it would be easier to swap with a mirage.

That's true ralliart, and that sounds like a project. like if you are really really rich... You either have to be rich, or have to know how to do it yourself, cause not very many people know how to do it, and, if they don't do it right, then you have to be ready to pay out to fix it. I would love to try it though... but I'm poor... very poor (I've had my lancer 4 months, and I still don't have any mods other than the sound system. )

I've done an Estimate. Its about $5000 to fully mod out a Lancer without getting into engine internals. The car in theory would end up with around 140WHP and handle extremely well. Doing an Engine Swap you'd end up spending I'd say $8000 on the swap alone with a vehicle that couldn't handle the power you were putting into it. Then another $2000 for a sufficient suspension upgrade. Then with all this you'd still be at a loss for the Evo AWD system. Also pretty much kiss your Gas Milage goodbye. Don't forget that when swapping you're taking the soul out of your car, once you change out that block you're no longer driving a Lancer. All you'll be able to say to people is look I drive an Half-Evo with a Lancer shell on top of it. I think that kind of takes the point out of tuning, and if you're thinking about a swap maybe instead you should be thinking about another car. Just some food for thought there.
