When I replaced my alternator a few weeks ago, the tensioner bolt broke when I took it off.

I put the alt back on without it(just like on a Honda).
Take a pry bar, put it behind the alt, pry it up to desired tension, then tighten the bolt at the top of the alt.

On the alt, you should have 3 bolts prior to any work done on it.
1 at the bottom (the pivot one)
1 that acts as the tensioner
1 at the top to keep it from moving

It may work for now but over time it will slowly lose tension. Just replace the jack screw. I don't understand how it broke in the first place?

those bolts do strange things. my power steering/AC belt tensioner was all sorts of jacked up. i just drove without the belt on until i had time to get the replacement parts from ...but you don't exactly have that luxury with your alternator belt.

I doubt it will if it's done properly, otherwise other manufacturers wouldn't do it at the factory. I'll see with time I guess.
