RRM V2 Intake -> Drag Race event
RRM V2 Intake -> Drag Race event
The Hotrod Super Nationals are this weekend in Ohio, at the Quaker City Dragstrip (20th-23rd) and I'm bringing my Lancer out for the event to see what it runs. I'm running street class (obviously) and my friend is bringing his RSX as well.
I ordered the RRM V2 intake which UPS says should be here by Friday or Saturday.
I'm going to make some passes completely stock Friday, and then install the intake Saturday, to see how it affects 1/4 mile times. Ill make a couple passes in D and then sport shift mode as well to see the differences.
I will post some videos and pics for you guys, and do a write up on how I like it. Ill scan in my time slips so you guys can laugh at my reaction times too
. I have to experiment with how to launch this thing.
I know the intake isn't a big deal or anything, but nobody's really posted anything very informative about it yet as far as I know. And I'm excited to get this thing out and see how it runs.
Check back here for updates this weekend.

RRM has NEVER claimed that thier intake drops the 0-60 in a drag strip. All thier times were with a professional driver and a road course.

"Expect to drop a full second in 0 - 60 mph times with this intake as the MIVEC kicks in and this engine gulps in air!"
OHHH lol now what

I have had the SRI on my 04 Ralliart and this 08 Lancer, and I know for a fact from my own experience that you do not drop a full second in 0 to 60 times. I feel like the intake helps, but not to this extent that they say.

Lol, RRM has made the same claim for years, they used the exact same line 5 years ago when I bought their intake for my 2003 lancer. To drop a full second of your 0-60 time would require a hell of a lot more power than an intake will provide.
Guess we will just have to wait for hard facts from Bawb3 after he does his stock run, and then his run Saturday with the new V2 SRI. Good luck Bawb3, and stay safe more then anything first!
Well, I just got back from the track...
Some bad news, UPS has delayed my shipment until the 23rd, So I MIGHT be able to get it on for the final day Sunday IF it comes early. If not, ill just head out to the test/tune night next Friday(the 27th).
My Lancer is a CVT PZEV, so I wasn't expecting to run that great, but I was still slightly disappointed. And the place was PACKED with street class cars, 4-5 staging lanes, full of street cars
. So by the time I got off work (Worked a bit late) I only got to make 2 passes. My friend brought his 05 RSX 5spd base model, its a 2.0l I-Vtec, similar to the lancer engine. He ran 17.8 against me the first pass, and on his second 17.3.
I'm not very experienced with drag racing, I'm by no means a professional driver, so my results could obviously be better. Both were done in Sport Shift Mode.
My first run: 18.575 with a .918 reaction time. I was waiting too long to shift, and had a passenger.
Second run: 18.075 with a 1.27 reaction time. Shifting this time @ around 5k, let it slip over a couple gears, and out of the power band. Their computer was screwing up and spitting out 0's on the 60' and 1/8 mile times.
I know for sure it will go into the 17's, I just have to get better at driving this car.
I'm looking for suggestions on how to launch with a CVT. I was just sitting in 1st gear, holding the brake in, which it only seems let you rev to 2k with the brakes locked. Being able to launch at ~3k would probably improve my time, but I'm not sure I can with the CVT(In a way that doesn't risk damaging anything).
So tomorrow I'm looking to get it into the 17's, and improve my reaction time. More to come

Day 2:
Absolutely packed, a complete cluster%$*# at the track, tons of downtime, computer system crashes/resets. And to top it all off, after sitting in the staging lanes for 2+ hours it started to rain like hell and the rest of the night got canceled. So basically it was a wasted day.
No intake yet, So I guess Ill have to wait until next week.
I'm going back tomorrow for the last day, early this time, before the mass of people.

Sorry, Posted right after getting back and was pretty frustrated.
Anyways. my best time was 18.01 on Sunday, in the morning while the air was still cool. Shifting at around 5.5k rpm, that seems to be it's sweet spot on the CVT.
Good news though, the intake finally came. Here are a few pics and a couple video's of how it sounds. I like the way it sounds a lot, it makes the car sound so much faster than it is though
. Still completely quite while you're cruising, but you hear it when you stomp the gas. There is definitely more pull to the car, I can really tell after spending the whole weekend at the track with the car stock. As for the heat shield, It actually seems like it helps, I was running the car kind of hard to test out the intake, and felt it after I parked, was hardly warm. I also drove it with, and without the stock snorkel, and the stock snorkel does seem to help bring in more air.
Here it is, in the box.

Installed, shiny

how low do you mean? The car still has almost no pull from 0-2.5/3k rpm, its just how the MIVEC works. It probably helped a bit, however once it gets beyond that point, there is indeed a little more pull. It actually made the wheels hop a bit when I launched it, which it never was able to do before. I'm not really sure theres much we can do to get rid of that low power in very low RPMs with the lancer, even with a turbo, I'd guess it still only gets spooled up around the 3k mark.
