That figures, we have been busting our *** for nothing when all we had to do was one time and leave it off.

take of the timing belt cover and you can bent that little peice of flat metal out of the way to get a wrench in there i could have these things installed in like 20 minuts
I went the same route cuz I didn't feel like cutting anything. Still took me forever though cuz even by coming at it from the timing belt side, you still don't have that much room to work with. And I thought about leaving that bolt off too but didn't wanna run the risk of having it leaking right there.

im getting ready for a header install, and taking off the timing belt cover makes it easy as cake to get at the bolt. but as mentioned before, be careful not to drop anything down in the timing belt area after you remove the cover. took me like 2 min to take that cover off and be able to get to that bolt with plenty of room to loosen it. i think i will shove a rag or something down where the timing belt goes to keep anything from falling in there during installation.

Andrew, how in the hell do you manage to turn the bolt so easily? I can get to it sure enough, but there is still very little room to twist that bolt off w/ an open-ended wrench.

Underneath from the backside is the easiest way I get to that SOB with the open end and you can still only swing it a little bit. I just did it today as a matter of fact (homebrew T3 will be running tomorrow!). It seems that the factory puts hella unnecessary torque on that thing cuz I can get it off fairly easy now. Just tough to break the cherry.

jon, i just removed the timing belt cover and other misc. crap in the way... took like two min. to take off the cover and move hoses/wires out of the way. and then the last thing left is a metal flat that is very thin and easy to bend out of the way. you just gotta find something good to extend your wrench thats slightly curved.

yeah, i know what your thinking, sickos! lol.

I utilized one of those ratcheting wrenches that require very little play to turn a bolt. Slid it underneath the bottom of the exhaust manifold and hooked it with a bigger wrench to pull it up. Reversed the process to tighten the bolt. Worked great.

a little bit of a bump here but better than starting a new thread.. i was in the process of taking mine off today but with very little time to work with i went straight for that ****er and left all the easy work for later. it took me like 10-15 mins tryin to figure out how to do it but all i did was just hook a rope to the wrench (once its snugged on) then have someone pull it up as i push it up from underneath. if it was by myself though it would have been more of a pain though cause that thing felt like it was solded on the ****ing thing.
