I always hear complaints about the power but when I have needed to accelerate and get in a lane a double tap on the CVT downshift side and a press on the pedal my vehicle accelerated quickly and did what I wanted it to do.

The suspension on the car is amazing (I have always owned 3-5 year old luxury cars) compared to anything I have ever had. It is sure footed, feature packed, and I get a ton of compliments.

My only complaints are the glitches that as of yet are still unresolved (popping through my speakers when I adjust mirrors) and the thin paint that easily chips on the hood, which if they make a carbon fiber hood that is basic GTS style the evo style one is too ricey for me will be replaced. I get a ton of compliments on the car and love having the CVT. I drive in heavy traffic every day which made the MS3 an impractical DD for me.

It say's hood pins are required. Why does this one need hood pins? RRM's says it latches down. Damn but that is rather tempting.

I would assume that the OEM style Vis one just doesnt have the latch fitted to it.

Technically all CF hoods should be used with hood pins for safety reasons.

yeah i dont have a probelm other than first gear..im sure if you took the track and race a lancer CVT vs a MT from about a 40mph roll...i dont think the CVT wuold run any slower because its a CVT..its just we lose so much low end power while in D mode..if we could somehow launch the car or simply have better pick up i would be fine with a CVT.. im not trying to make a 500hp lancer..i want 320hp to the crank max with this CVT and im done..because by the time im 23 or 24 it'l be time for a real evo. so this is just temporary for the next 4 or 5 years..

but i have no complains about the CVTs power other than fist gear..

The power is not that much a problem, ppl complain more because it says a GTS and advertise an aggressive look with a huge spoiler while the power is only normal.
But even if we don't get that much low-end torque we can still go uphill without downshift, and pass car by on tight road. Wich is on my opinion pretty much only what's needed for 99% of the people.
So you can say it lacks power for the 'look' , but it don't for everyday road need.

I don't have acceleration issues from first either. I think the core issue is people wanting this car to be more then what it is marketed as. Given the styling and suspension scream for more power. But the car as is handles well, is still pretty peppy, is well appointed and has pretty good sound isolation for it's class. The seats are firm and comfy, with S&S and Nav you have a car for 22K that has features most cars don't have until you reach 30K+.

There are much faster cars that fall in the price range of a GTS. The MS3, Cobalt SS Supercharged, SRT4 and GTI fall in around the same price bracket. If people wanted fast perhaps they should have gone another route.

Thanks Amby I have never had a CF hood.

Looking at the prices it seems having the chipped and rusted areas on my hood repainted and then clear bra'd may be cheaper huh?

Depends, when I had my lancer I had a CF hood for the summer and used my stock hood for the winter. I didn't use hood pins but I should have considering how much the hood fluttered on the highway.

for part i do think we expect more from a GTS model for example the older eclipse 99-04 or whatever they had wide ranges i belive one was like a 156hp 4 banger and the GTS was a 200hp v6..not saying the lancer should have had a v6..but we shuold have at least got the 168 like the 09s have

i dont see how many people couldnt have a problem with the low end of the car..my cousins 148hp civic ex picks up 2x as fast as the CVT lancer does..i just want more of a little push when i get on the pedal like most cars...powerfull or not...maybe a simple ecu tweak can change that..but the overall power of the lancer i dont have a problem with it..for being a 2.0 4 banger

specially since i never owned anything lower than a 3.0L

Yeah, all around the lancer is nicer than the cars in it's price range that are actually faster in my opinion, which is why we're all here on this forum to begin with .

I was reading about the cvt a bit the other day (I think it was Motor Trend's review), they said that when you launch the car, start in the manual shift mode, then when it reaches about 45mph in 1st gear, pop it back into drive for better acceleration. They said it has something to do with how the gear ratios are set, it accelerates faster in 1st gear, but pulls harder beyond 45mph in drive. I haven't tried this myself, the only way for me to try it, is to take it to the track and see if it runs faster, which I might do.

ive been thinkin to trade my lancer in for an si.. It just brings me down that it takes so much to add hp to my car.. i got the 2.4 liter so im pushin 168. i know a guy thats custom building his own turbo and says its gunnu give him around 70 n im thinking thats a lil over the edge. and im 17 all the mods i would b paying for so it just feels like as i get older and i have a lancer all the money i spent to the mods would be a waste when i couldve used it to buy a evo. If the lancers hp started around 190-200 then i would deff mod my car but it doesnt so should i trade it in for an si?

I don't think its worth it to trade in the lancer just yet, especially for an SI. I got my lancer payed off for 21K, and it has all the available options. To get close to the options the lancer has your looking at about 25K if not more for that car. I don't know about most Honda dealer's, but the 2 i visited when i was lookin for cars last year were not budging on the msrp because there was such a high demand for that car. Things could be different now and you could get a better deal. Besides, you would just be another person with a Honda, not there's nething wrong with that.

Personally, I am waiting to see if Toyota re-releases the AE86. From all the hype, it looks like it may come out later this year or next year, but nothing concrete. What I'm looking forward to is that its a RWD and speculated to come in at 12K for the base. Meaning with trade in, you could get the top model without really hurting the bank. As for the stats, it looks like its gonna be a 120hp motor, so it would be a drop in power from the lancer, but the car is also suppose to come in at under 2400lbs, so it will def be good competition against our little piggys lol.

you guys act like you'll never be able to buy another car again in your lifetime. i am sure, in 2 to 3/4 years down the line things will have changed. I mean it's a 2008 year model with a redesigned engine and we're still in 2008. you guys need some paitence. Espeically in this bizzare time when gas costs more than milk power, (and when i think 4.77 cents is a good deal) can wait and so can our warranties.
