From World engine to Hybrids and evo swaps
From World engine to Hybrids and evo swaps
I believe that alot of people here dont believe that the USDM Lancer can't accept a Dual cam swap or Evo engine swap without a fab job. Please understand that what you about to read in this article are about swaps that have been performed in the place of the "WORLD ENGINE" a.k.a 4G93. Remember it's a world engine, that means that no matter where you go in the World, that engine and it's mounts are the "SAME". Now, they swapped the 4g63 engine with no Fab job, that just leads me to believe whoever performed the swap here in the states, i think someone posted here on Evolutionm.net, assumed things will not bolt or mount up right in turn over "prepared" for the transplant thus running into mounting problems . If people would just research the info they would find that the Swap is not hard.

nah, i just wanted people to understand that if you wanted to do something like that then search for the info and try to find people who are optimistic about the project and not just giving some answer like they actually done the project before or i noticed people sometime assume since it's an Evo/performance car they think that the motor will not fit or bolt up. You have to understand, the lancer and Evo share the same chassis, only difference is that the Evo has a few more welds to it due to the drivetrain and body stiffing.
The engine doesn't fit right away, someone has indeed done the swap and shown this to be true. However, modifications can be made to make it fit. The biggest problem is hooking the engine up the transmission.
Hooking the engine up to the transmission would be a matter of using the F5M42 transmission from a 3G Eclipse with the Lancer transmission internals inside (like the 4G64 swap) or taking your Lancer transmission and attaching the 4G64 bellhousing to it (like the 4G64 swap). The biggest modification in mounting has to do with the passenger side engine mount. Our frames don't have the provisions for this mount like the 3G Eclipse, Mirage and Evo do.

But it's one of those subjects that's not even being considered a hurdle. Also, remember i just stated the the Evo has a few more welds due to the drivetrain. Now some of the reason why people are discouraged about doing a swap like that because either the parts are not available, price of the parts, either is rare like the 4G92 DOHC and of course the Main "culprit" people stating Misleading info. I look at it like this, if people can shell out $5000 plus for turbo kits and the supporting mods with engine management......doing a transplant can be feasible. Senate6268, you right, i know that mount you speak of. Back in 2004, guy in Macon, Ga has a 97 mirage with a Evo 4g63t, i was shocked cuz i was on on this website and people here was saying it's not doable, so i had to look at his setup. The guy told me it's not hard to do, he said it was easy as putting a Fuel Injection 350 Gm motor convert it to carburetor then slap it in, now If anyone have done that before then you will know that it's not that hard to do if you know what you are doing.

Take this anyway you want to.
Swapping an Evo motor is not as easy as people make it out to be, and it's not as hard as people make it out to be. I cannot speak for the Lancer but for the Mirage, it has not been a bad swap outside of the financial aspect and some of the custom work to get it to fit.
