I understand there are marks to indicate tdc but is there a way to tell when the head is at tdc by lookhng at the valve opening/closing? I just want to make sure the head is still at tdc aligned with the marks even though it's a cam with higher lift etc...

 

The cam gear should have a mark on it. Also, cylinder #1 should have intake and exhaust valves closed
