RPW Camshaft w/ 4G93 Valve Springs
RPW Camshaft w/ 4G93 Valve Springs
Is anyone here running the RPW Stage 2 Camshaft?
I was wondering if you upgraded your valve springs.
I am thinking about using the valve springs from the Mirage 4g93 since they use a more agressive camshaft than the 4g94.
What do you think?

it should be fine, its not much more duration over your stock cam. When i had my sohc set up i used the 4g93 cam and then i had a custom cam i did not need to replace valve springs.
According to RPW, valve springs are necessary for Stage 2 and higher cams. Even if it may not be necessary, I would play it safe and get the valve springs ... assuming they are compatible of course.
k, thanks for the info, and by the way, i can't really do a mod, at least i don't think so, cause this engines got 143,000 miles on it. never really heard anyone higher on this car at its age. i'll think about the swap though, how much more of a difference do you actually get with the 4g64 anyways, i've had a turbo 4g94 @ 12lbs, but blew that one up already.
I think I'll just take the dent in my wallet and buy the RPW valve springs.
Going to need them down the road when I boost higher anyways
I got a quote for $300 shipped to socal

Im running the RPW stage 2 cam. turbo app. Also got there valve springs. The stockers look puny compared to the rpw ones... I also put in an adjustable cam gear to help me set it at TDC after i installed it. They are a hell of a lot stiffer its rediculous! Gives me peice of mind that i wont be getting any valve float....

ok now on with the discussion...
If your going all out NA(ported head, raised compression, knifeedge crank etc....) then ya id say a stage 2 cam would be a nice addition. Take into consideration you will lose a bit of the low end torque because of the cam and this will cause her to feel a bit weak in normal driving. But when you do get the revs up around 3500ish then it makes a big difference there. The cam is made for mid to high end power.
Some cons are louder lifter noise at cold startup. I was using Castrol GTX 20W50 but i just changed to Royal Purple 10W40 a little thinner oil, hoping it would lessen the noise...
Some of the rough idle is due to the 440cc injectors im using but you should have a better idle using the stock injectors or something just a tad larger, NA case...
You will have to raise your idle. I have the TB screw backed out the most it can and i also have my idle rpms set to 1100 using EcuFlash. Def gonna need either a piggy or use EcuFlash to tune for the cams. You might get a misfire cel cuz the cam has a longer duration which causes more valve overlap which in turn causes a slight misfire... Also when you raise your idle the ECU will throw a CEL saying that the idle rpm is higher than expected. thats all i can think of right off the top of my head but ask away!
Its kinda hard for me to say if the cams make that much of a difference cuz i put everything in at one time....

Alright! great info!
about that misfire tho. would it cause an engine problem in the long run? seeing as this is my dd car, and i do plan on keeping it for a while, so reliability is definitely very important.

I cant say for sure if it will damage your engine in the long run or not but nevertheless I feel like the gains outweigh the risks... You wanna mod to get more power right and you know that there is a risk involved but you take that risk anyways... oh and my car is a daily driver by the way haha
