My rod is a goner!
So for the past month or so, when i start up my car after sitting for the whole night, or just for a few hrs, my engine starts knocking pretty loud for about 5 minutes and starts to fade away...at the same time ive been burning more oil than i should....so ive been goin into the dealer every 500 miles for a consumption test....and finally after the 4th time going in they say, "Oh, we finally realized that there might be a problem"...
What The ****? Just now you realized that?!
Anyway.......
So i left my car overnight so that the next morning they could hear the sound and let me know whassup....well i end up calling them today to see whassup, and he tells me that im having a Rod Knock...in other words, my rod (or some ****) needs to be replaced, however there is no damage. Just thought i'd share and see if anybody else has experienced this? Latez

My old tempo had the same problem. That was the symptom of the old Ford 2.3 motors getting ready to throw a rod. It was a quieter knock that presented itself only when the engine was revving. The car is drivable like that, but sooner or later, it will need replaced. My solution to the problem was to buy a new car, but I had a POS tempo, not a new Lancer. If the car's still under warranty, you should be able to get the rod replaced. Even if you've added a new intake and whatnot, the car shouldn't be ready to throw a rod. Check to see if they'll fix it under warranty.
