I bought the Pulstar Plugs for my 08 Lancer GTS back in April and they have worked quite well. I noticed a slight increase in get up and go and I noticed at least about a 10-15% increase in fuel economy. Everything has been going well. For the most part my driving is conservative however I do like to drive spiritly as well.
However, recently in the past 1-2 months when the weather here in Utah has been getting cooler I've noticed my car idling funny. Basically, it will be at 750-1000 RPM and then it would go to 1000-1100 RPM. Didn't think too much about other than I thought it was kinda odd, however the slight increase in RPM was not enough to be too concerned about IMO.
Anyways, we had our real snowstorm of the season today and driving home from work in 22-31 Degree F weather I noticed that my RPMs were going from about 800 and jumping up to 1500-2000 RPM. I was like WTF! I got home and took out my Pulse Plugs and the plug in cylinder 2 had an orange ring about 1-2 mm up the side from where the ceramic piece connects to the metal piece. Thought it was kinda odd. On top of that, the ceramic piece felt slightly loose. I wiggled it a little bit to verify that it was indeed loose. It was, because it then came apart in my hands! ohmy.gif Further inspection found that the ceramic and internals of the plug had fractured. Further inspection of the plugs found that 2 other plugs also had the odd orange ring that I noticed on the one that fractured, but not as large as the one that fractured.
Luckily I still have the OEM plugs, so I replaced the Pulstar Plugs with the stock plugs.
Just a brief note. I have had the Pulse Plugs installed since April with about 6500 miles on them.

Hi, I am the CEO of Enerpulse, the maker of Pulstar. I am concerned with what you have shown here and want to understand what happened. Have you called our customer service? If not please do 888-800-6700. We will replace your plugs, but I would like to know how this happened.
Cheers.
Cheers.
I reviewed these already for the 08 Lancer, I am waiting to hear back from Enerpulse to evaluate the colder plug version to try in the EVO X.
The issues with the plug is not that they are unstable. They generally act the same, but the shotgun approach that the company has taken will prove valuable in the long run. Our ECU is extremely picky, There isnt terrible drivability issues but just a matter of tuning. After playing with the plugs for a while, I think I have figured out the right combination that will yield A) a better idle B) not allow a high enough fault count with the O2 sensor CEL. After all that playing around those plugs are now in my Winter beater Mazda running with no issues.
There will also be production issues with bad lots, but what product doesnt have issues, early on the reject rate of Ipods was pretty high... any new product or new company will have their issues. The fact that they are willing to replace it for free speaks volumes.
To put it simply, Some cars will have terrible issues, some will have tiny issues, and some will be just fine. The lancer is in that category where it has small issues.
They have already proven that the technology works, sometimes the shotgun, or lol Spray and Pray approach works. Its just a matter of time before its perfected, I might be done by Enerpulse, or maybe NGK will buy them out... who knows...
. I have submitted suggestions on how this can be done to the CEO, but I am sure they are already moving on to the next phase of their product R&D.

Wow, well the truth behind the plugs fouling is the BE-1 plugs are stock gapped at .040" and that person left them at .040" YET!!! Mitsubishi recommends .030" and everyone that has regapped the BE-1 havent had any problems at all. It creates a wider gap which means more heat to clear the gap which makes the plugs foul prematurely.

Welcome to the new America lol joking
