Intake Manifold and Throttle Body
Intake Manifold and Throttle Body
This morning I finally took a look at the intake system on my Lancer. I usually don't judge things by looks alone but I could tell that the Lancer's intake system was going to be pretty weak, I was not dissapointed. First I measured the throttle body it came in at a scary 2.5"(64mm) at the butterfly now I suppose this wouldn't be so bad, but upon opening the butterfly and looking into the actual intake manifold I immediately see a problem, the throttle body is undersized by at least 1/4"(6mm) in relation to the opening in the actual intake manifold which I'm pretty sure is a bad thing anyways, after seeing this my attention is immediately drawn to the surface of the intake manifold itself. Now I'm not a mechanic yet, but to me the surface seemed to be overly rough for something meant to flow air into an engine, maybe even rough enough to rob some nice ponies from the car(if you need to picture it the inside of the manifold is about as smooth as the outside from what I could tell) unfortunately I couldn't remove the intake manifold to take measurements, but I'll say at the least it needs to be polished possibly even slightly ported.
