dont waste your time and money on saving weight ... this car is 3032 pounds.... how much can you really save? just add more power... its still pretty fast considering 152hp/3032pounds

my dads car is a 1999 Civic Sir.. and its 420 pounds lighter than our car. if i stripped it.. i can save over 150 pounds.. and that car has a potential of 500hp.. our lancer has a potential of what? 240?

So you believe that weight saving ideas are not helpful??? Then why did Mitsubishi brag about the new 4b11 being a all aluminum block and saving 60 lbs. in weight over the old models? The AMS battery upgrade sounds logical. It knocks another 15 pounds off the front, and also takes up half the space of the OEM battery, which would allow more room for air to flow near a SRI if you have one..............Just a idea. I emailed AMS to get more info on the battery because it says on their site it is made for the 09 Ralliart. Want to make sure it would work on a standard 08 or 09 Lancer. The weight cut does however come with a hefty price tag of $179. I am on the fence with this add on. Any thoughts or comments??

itd be nice if injen would design a cai in conjunction with a battery like that...itd be alot more direct, i do have a sri, but want to go cai. does a smaller battery like that last a shorter amount of time than a regular sized one?

Instead of trying to strip crazy things out of your car to save weight, or spending a lot of money to make it only slightly quicker, maybe try investing in some nice tires, good street/track pads and motul brake fluid, and either do lowering springs/rear sway bar or both- then, once you have those mods your car will be ready to take to Miller Motorsports park. It wont be the fastest car out there, but it would be fun, teach you good driving skills, and your car would be just as drivable everyday. If you are serious about driving at the track check into lappingdays.com With those mods it could hold you over for a while until you can afford a project car/upgrade to Evo or other vehicle if you seek more power or AWD platform.

Because they're a car company, they brag about anything they can. 60 lbs is also a lot off of one part. Weight savings are great if you go all out but otherwise it's a waste of time and money and somewhat hypocritical. As an obvious example, how many cars have CF hoods and trunks for "weight savings" but have a trunk full of sound equipment?

Or just drive the car as it is and then decide if you want mods. My first track days were on a fairly stock car, I only had new tires and rims on.

you got it it before me.... weight off one is one thing.. weight of the whole car is another. saving 15 pounds... bah.. thats nothing.

look. our car weighs 3032 pounds.. you are over 100 pounds. so lets say now the car weighs 3132. but cutting 15 pounds... its not gonna make you save any more fuel or time (speed) if you cut 500 pounds.. yes

what you can do.. take out the spare tire. take out all the speakers and the rear seats.. switch to carbon fiber hood.. but you're still gonna be at 2985 + pounds. My dad's civic is still over 300 pounds lighter with no modifications. this car isn't a "race" car. at least the evo has almost 300 hp and it has a potential of over 400

Another thing is that our car is tall. stand up and see where it measures to your body. compare our lancer to a civic, nsx, lambo, ferrari, lotus, even a corolla. our car is HUGE... that means we are already less aerodynamic and we dont have handling as good as the other cars above.

My advice. get coilovers and just add power. if you compare a $5000 turbo vs $10000 of carbon fiber on a 3032 pound car.... you will benefit more for the turbo. (with 5k... you'll get 232+hp....and with 10k...lets even say that you can make the car 2700 pounds..the extra 80 horse power can compensate for the extra weight)

3032/232=13.07 pounds per hp.
2700/152=17.67 pounds per hp.
and stock is 3032/152=19.95 pounds per hp.

in conclusion, our car is freaking heavy and freaking powerless. boosting the hp will give you more performance per $$$

lol ive been rollin with no spare tire/jack/tools forever now...the speakers dont weigh much at all, so no point..i love my music. also i already dropped the stock catback for my works exhale..21 lbs right there. ur right about the tallness..thats one thing that really stood out when i first looked at the car, most noticable when lookin at the ***...i jus wanna have sumtin i feel like i can take to do some runs...minor mods, ill probly go springs, no point for the coilovers, jus save for a car more practical for these purposes...when i do canyon runs in this car it really pisses me off during turns, jus horrible grip as in i dont have the confidence that itll stick to the road, on top of that the body roll trips me out like itll break traction and ill have a bigger problem on my hands

Weight savings is about removing all the little things to make a big difference, having the mentality that "they don't eight much at all, so no point" goes against the very mantra. A lightweight battery only saves 15 lbs, not much, a CF hood saves maybe 10 lbs, not much, a CF trunk saves maybe 10 lbs, not much, but together that's 35 lbs.
If you want more grip, buy better tires. Your suspension can only work as well as the tires will allow. An upgraded rear sway bar is also a good idea.
If you're doing this with the intention of tracking the car, take it to the track first and then decide what mods you want.

I had a Lancer before I my WRX, trust me, take the car to the track first, then decide what mods you want to do. If you don't like tracking the car, you can do whatever you want, if you like tracking, there are some mods that are a good idea, and some that are not.
