a while back i traded my Megan 3" downpipe back exhaust for a stock exhaust, and when we put it on the kids car, it actually sounded really good, and loud, but not ricey at all.

i did a 3" DP/exhaust w/ HFC on a 2.4 chevy z24 and it sounded like ****. Had to get a resonator to smooth out the tone. Why waste the money puting into a car with no Hp potential? I wasted years and thousands of dollars trying to mod cars like a lancer - no offense. Save your money and put it into a car with HP potential (or get a turbo for your ES and build from there). Silly IMO to waste the cash (save it and buy a house or go to college or somthing like that), but its about what you want, not what we think. Good Luck

3inch exhaust

If Its a 2.4l none turbo. It will kill your TQ. If its NA I would go with 2.25.. & maybe 2.5inch if you are making more than 220hp. and 2.75 if you are making 245 - 275hp Good Luck

this is also true. the reason i had a full 3" catless exhaust, was because i was turboed lol. the exhaust gave me like over 25 whp just by bolting it on and not getting tuned for it. was awesome!

haha well xtremeboost doesn't really HAVE a "kit"....they made mine planning for production, but never made anymore. so its a one off custom kit made my xtremeboost. don't get me started on RRMs kit. also, asking if something is better than RRM, is asking for trouble on these forums!!

torque will be lost with no back pressure in an n/a car.

Going 3 inches, there are ways you can reserve some backpressure, with restriction, but putting bends in to the pipe kinda defeats the purpose of everything.

Balancing back pressure and exhaust design is tricky, alot of it is trial and error. but 3 inches for a none turbo is going to result in a loss of power. especially if you do it at the cat back level vs. axle back.
