Flange behind balancer...Need help

Ok I have 2 questions kinda direct to the point , I did my timing belt , went with a gates t201rb, Loud as hell..lol Marks are verified and I reinstalled everything per specs...

Does that flange on the end of the crank go in front or behind the timing cover? Mines making a whirring noise, I installed the cover then the flange, then the balancer, is that right?

Also the car picks up very very fast now , If I was one tooth off on the cam i'd instantly crush valves correct? 1 tooth seems like it'd be 1/2-3/4" thats way far , the top mark on the head is where I had issues because you cant get a direct line of site because of the fender

Ive done these before at work but its been a while since i did one..

The flange goes between the crank pulley and the lower timing cover. You did it correctly. If the timing is one tooth off it would not cause the valves to interfere with the pistons. You can always re-verify the timing by putting the crank pulley at the TDC mark and seeing where the cam gear mark lines up to the 10 o'clock mark on the cylinder head.

Yea I got it thanks dude, what I did that may help the noobs is I took a mirror and angled it so I can see the point on the head and the timing line in the cam gear on the other side leaning over the engine ,kinda how dentists use that mirror in your mouth...

It runs 100% just noisy cuz of the belt I guess, the gates is kevlar , its getting quieter I think anyway

Ok so lets say it was off a tooth on the cam side , would it throw a check engine light? it revs super fast and has tons of power now..lol Maybe its for the best but it was super sluggish before I did the belt..

the previous belt was questionable as far as mileage , also Im sure it has been a while since the last change because I could almost pull it off the cam gear

You likely wouldn't throw a code because the ECU is compensating for it by adjusting ignition timing and fuel.

So with your mirror trick were you able to tell if the timing marks lined up? They either line up or they don't, there's no gray area.

they lined up fine but seemed like 1/8" of a tooth off if that , then again no marks are completely accurate cuz of the head gasket, casting etc..., its good to go ..

Mirror trick worked fine
