2 step on the lancer?

ok, a friend of mine has a 2step msd box on his 97 eclipse and might sell it. if i buy it how the heck would i wire the damn thing??? he has 1 coil i have 4. also i was thinking about taking an eclipse coil and using it in the lancer. i know i need to get wires that would fit. what wires would go to which area on the plug? also is there any power difference between a round plug coil and a square plug coil from the eclipse? thanks in advance for your help, if at all.

There is no need to change your ignition system just to gain a 2-step. If you want a 2-step, and have a manual transmission Lancer, then flash an Evo ROM onto your ECU and use the 2-step feature they have. Otherwise, you'll be redoing your entire ignition system with wires, coil, ignitor, and that MSD box that will give you zero power gain.

Just as a side note the auto transmission isn't possible to do a 2 step process because of the way the transmission works. We can not fully disengage the transmission to rev up to 2 step. So the best you can do is get the transmission up to stall speed and use a transmission brake.

so let me get this right, i can 2step on the oem ecu that my lancer came with after a reflash? or do i need to get an evo ecu first? also i read some where else that with the ecu swap, in order to get the 2stp to work, after i flash and swap the 2 wires, that i need to also jump a wire from "x to x" location for the clutch switch. at any rate, anyone have a tactrix cable they wanna sell 4 cheap? or just help me with the hacking and tweaking?

Correct. If you flash an Evo ROM onto your ECU and run the missing wire from the clutch position switch to the ECU (factory on Evo, missing on Lancer) you can run a 2 step with your OEM ECU.

You can set the limit to whatever you want if you use TephraV7. You can also setup NLTS if you have a heavy enough clutch.

NLTS is "No Lift To Shift" an awesome little feature that allows you to shift gears without lifting your foot off the throttle by creating a temp. rev limit as soon as you push in the clutch

A 2 step is essentially a rev limiter that you setup for when you are stopped. You might also think of it as launch control. With the gas pedal depressed the engine will only rev to say 3500rpm, for example, and allow you to release the clutch and go. There is an upper RPM and a lower RPM that the engine bounces between.

from what i gather, its a certain version of an "evo" rom that is recommended to use for your oem lancer ecu. maybe the most compatible rom for a usdm 02-03 lancer
