Reseting ECU
Reseting ECU
I have a header and have reset the comp 3 times so far to get rid of the CEL. I haven't had the chance to order a MIL eliminater yet. My questions are 1) Is it bad to keep reseting it? 2) I read about it being bad to disconnect the positive side first and I have always disconnected the positive first. What does this cause?
I wouldn't bother resetting it until you get the MIL eliminator though. All you're doing is resetting it so that it will detect the "problem" again in 10 min or so. I can't think of anything bad about disconnecting the positive side first, other than the risk of slight (like you won't even feel it) electric shock.
It doesn't "detect" the problem for like 3000 miles, so it lasts a while. I read in some other thread to make sure you disconnect the negative side first because you will damage something, but it never said what and I have no clue which it was. Search was no help. As for a shock, it is impossible to feel 12 volts. Now go to the coil or spark plug wires where the voltage is amplified and you get hit real nice.
yeah, like I said, you won't feel it. BUt keep in mind that doesn't mean it's doing anything good for you. And if it stays off for 3,000 miles then keep doing it, although your car will run fine with the cel on, as long as nothing else is wrong.
Yeah, the lights just anoying and my card is maxed out from payin for my ripp supercharger. I just want to know why they said its bad to do the pos side first, I don't want to burn up my comp or anything. Thanx

When elminating the - or ground side first, there's less chance of internal sparking and shorting of components that are still holding a charge.
You do run a risk, albiet a small one from disconnecting the + side first of frying something internal.

ya i 've always been told to do the - side first... never knew why just always told that.
As for doing it alot, u wont hurt anything, i would just let it be though and just wait for the MIL to come in and then re-set it after u install that.
