Hard Starting

I've had my car for about 11,000 miles now (164,500) and something I've noticed is that it's not very easy to start. I have to apply the gas to get it to start when it is warm. I don't have to do it when the car is cold and being started for the first time in the day. I'm not sure if its the pump or something else.

Also, I have noticed that sometimes when I shut it down, it will diesel a little bit. Basically the engine is still running for a second after I shut down. There are no MIL codes. Any idea? All new OEM NGK plugs and 1 new coil pack. I still need to replace another coil pack and the wires so that may factor into it.

Given the information above, what do you all make of this?

Sounds fuel related, maybe your regulator or pump???

i hope my car makes it to 164.... mine starts fine but i know what you mean when i turn her off she sounds like she still wants to run and then sounded like she was hissing out of the intake.. some one told me that was b/c of a lack of idling back pressure and the car had to pull air in when it was turned off to equalize... but i dun know im not a mechanic i just like to work on cars..

maybe do or get someone to do a compression check. Perhaps when the engine gets warm, the compression isn't quite right? Also, I've had a friends car who had a bit of coolant leaking in and keeping the car from starting when it had just been running. If it sat over night or whatever, it would start fine once the coolant evaporated off or whatever.

Edit - This is assuming you check fuel first, it's likely the pump is bad as stated above, or the fpr, or the lines running too near hot exhaust, or maybe other fuel type things.

Have you done any exhaust modifications? Some people will put mufflers with a ridiculous bore on them and not have enough back pressure. Silly wabbits.

How would I check to see if its my pump or regulator?? Is there a fairly simple test that I can run myself or am I needing to take it to a mechanic at this point?
