seeing that i'm not too educated about intakes quite yet i would have to make and educated guess and say that nothing . . . . the difference is in the place you get it from . . . everyone is gonna call it something different .. . just my opinion . . . .

K&N drop in filters are perfectly street legal (in the US at least) but the only reason why they say tha some of their products are for off-road use only is the fact that US emissions laws forbid products that could increase emissions in some form or another to be used on public roads and highways. However, products so dubbed "off-road" or "race only" may be used on tracks since it's private property.

Shh! Don't let the po'-po's (police...eh hem) know. Pretty much anything that doesn't have a CARB (California Air Resources Board) is not street legal but then again, other states have much more lenient if not non-existant emissions restrictions. Stupid environment...

"racing & off road use only" The same thing is written on my BOX, but I'm using it on the puplic roads & highways...
But why it's illegal..?! Is it because of the speed..? If not, so why it's illegal in most of the states..

Check your local laws. I'm pretty sure since K&N is based in the U.S., they're mostly concerned with upholding U.S. DOT (Department of Transportion) laws and meeting CARB standards.

K&N Air Cleaners

A little secret that all the mirage guy's know now but something we use in Australia as well.

Purchase the K&N Kit part number KN57-1500

This is one of there filtercharger kits and comes with a CAB Certification sticker.

This is a rampod filter system and I garauntee will improve the power of the car by a huge amount as well as is legal on teh car. Will replace the stock air box.

The kit was origonally designed for a 3000G so the brackets will need to be bent again but this kit will fit onto the MAS sensor (They are all the same mirage, diamenta, lancer etc) perfectly with a cast adapter and a very large oval shaped K&N Air cleaner.

Additioanally because of the design the air cleaner is 100% compatible with the MAS sensor and will not cause bad running, running rich etc.

We sell at least 5 of these a week in Australia and I cannot recomend them enough.

According to http://www.knfilters.com (K&N Site)
KN57-1500 is a "Fuel Injection Performance Kit"... Doesn't sound much like a FilterCharger...

That is the correct term for it. THe kit includes

K&N Rampod Filter oval shaped
Cast adapter to MAS sensor
Two adapter brackets - you will need to bend them
K&N Cleaning kit
CARB certification sticker for legal use and fitment IE suitable for all applications.

Garaunteed performance improvement and no problems with emmision controls.
