If you have not done so already, download the lancer full service manual by searching the forums and I believe there are some torq specs and such in there. Everything you are looking for should be in there.

If your not mechanically incline I would say either take it in or at least have someone there who is. Now if you are then the job is fairly straightforward. I changed mine when I installed my arp headstuds, you can do it CORRECTLY by yourself in approx 8 hours start to finish which includes making sure you get ALL the old gasket material off the block surface and head surface

Here Are a couple pics of the cylinders and head let me know what you think.. Sorry for the crappy quality there off my phone. There was quite a bit of water in the two inner cylinders and a bit of corrosion on the cyliner walls that I can see.

Ive been searching but haven't really found anything on what to use to clean the cylinders and head & valves. Whats the best thing to use to clean them????

Also Should I have the head rebuilt or just machined?? Any places in SoCal you guys would recommend?? Thanks again for everybody's help

OMG!!! That looks like hell!!! I had another lancer brought to me with a blown HG and water got in it. It was not half as bad as this and the cylinder walls were completely shot. Did this engine hydrolock? I had to replace the motor for them. Honestly bro I say get another engine and keep this one for any usable parts you may be able to salvage. Its gonna cost more to get this back up and running than it will to get a replacement engine. The engine I installed on the 02 lancer was only $500 I believe.

I dont think it hydro locked but it had pretty close to zero compersion. Basiclly my sister was borowing the car and drove it until it wouldnt drive anymore and then its sat for the last month until I could get it back to my house. I found another motor for about 500 bucks I gues thats the route im going to have to go. Thanks alot for you help and advice.. Do you know of anf good links to writeups or DIY w/ pics?? Im going to use the shop manual but any other referaces will help.. Thanks agian

when I switched the motor on my buddies car the hardest part of the whole thing was the tranny mount and the starter motor just because of where it sits. But even that is pretty straight forward just a hassle.

I should have it out today, I just called the yard that has the motor there now trying to get 600 instead of the original 500 I was told a few days ago, pretty lame so well see what happens. Also mine is an auto are there any differances with the intake manifold or wiring if it came out of a manual car?? Thanks

Sounds shady to me. If your not in a hurry I might look elsewhere just in spite of there shady conduct. No differences that I am aware of with the wiring. Since your auto you can remove the engine pretty easy without removing your tranny if you choose. Just make sure to pull off the bracket that holds the ac pump to the block as that will be in the way and watch that oil filter as it sticks out pretty far.

the after pics look alot better. thats about how mine looked when i pulled my head. the only reason i kept the engine is it had fresh hone marks so it had been rebuilt recently but they didnt have the head resurfaced therefore blowin the headgasket. i saved myself alot of money just having the head resurfaced and having a valve job done. it runs like a champ now. all together i spent about $300 on everything including gaskets. it was easier than what i thought the only tricky thing was the timing belt.
