I've had the Injen CAI for about 7 months now, and I did have a problem in a severe rainstorm where it sucked up some water. It ran funny for a second so I shut it off and had it towed a shop. The mechanic said whatever water got sucked up probably wasn't much and most likely dried up. This happened at about 17k miles and now I'm at 24,500 with no issues and still have the Injen CAI and no hydroshield, I might add.

Honestly I have not noticed any gains in gas mileage, response, or anything else. I did have fun installing it though and had a sense of accomplishment afterwards, haha.

the Simota CAI is more reliable, and widely installed on Lancers EX model here. they use the OE snorkel and its insulated with carbon fiber and easy fitment. check them out

Question

I have a quick question.

I own a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer (GTS) (2.4 L Mivec) and was thinking about getting a "drop in" K&N Air Filter for my Lancer and O'reilly, which seem's to be the cheapest area around here for car parts, before I start getting my discount @ Advance Auto Parts

O'reilly want's $61 and some change but that's the simple air filter ALONE WITH NO INTAKE PIPE N SUCH(STILL WITH STOCK INTAKE BOX AND OPENING)

I kinda like the STOCK OEM AIR INTAKE FILTER because the air is sucked in from the DRIVER FRONT SIDE OPENING UNDER THE HOOD OF THE FRONT OF THE CAR AWAY FROM THE HEAT FROM THE MOTOR AND THE OPENING IS FARELY LARGE FOR STOCK

***N e one know price's and what brand of CAI or Short Ram or even just simple air filter such has the K&N I want (with stock OEM INTAKE SYSTEM) at all?***

***Or even WHP or HP FACT'S?***

I have a 2011 GTS Manual...

Would the Injen be the best choice as well?
I was also looking at K&N or Takeda..

Once the car is tuned, Injen is the best by far

Informative and logical. I'm also debating between SRI or CAI. Since both are pretty cheap in price, the only differences I'm finding are a bit of gains with the CAI. But what you said above ^ is pushing my towards the SRI. I'm looking at the RRM SRI.. http://www.roadracemotorsports.com/s...97cb8fcbf255e8

Found this link for some more information for people making decisions between the two types of intakes: http://www.mitsubishi-forums.com/t30456-cai-or-sri.htm

I wouldnt worry about water honestly. Ive got a hydroshield and been through many very heavy rainfalls and even flooded roads and had no problems.

Well its your decision on what to go. Here in dallas tx we have a few well known shops such as Cobb tuning and forced performance, whom builds the fp turbos. At the last evo meet I was even told about the cai issue, so this isn't something shops are just saying. Best way to put, if you want a cai then go ahead, just be very safe about how fast you drive in water.

This doesn't happen to all cai users, but to hear it happen to more than a few vehicles in my area is too much of a gamble. Keep in mind dallas tx is not a town where it rains alot either. Just be safe and good luck with your mods!

DYNOS DYNOS DYNOS!!!

Anyone have dyno sheets for a stock setup and after the CAI or SRI installed?? This will be the decision maker for me. At this point it's all he said/she said. We can't trust the manufacturer's claims because they'll tell you anything to make a sale! And the butt-o-meter is placebo effect. I installed springs last weekend and it felt like I gained 20HP!

Takeda claims 20HP and 20 ft/lbs....SERIOUSLY?!?!?!

Independant studies FTW!

I would say if you're a manufacturer and you want to outsell your competition, give some folks some of your products in comparison with your competitors show the numbers to back it up.

Honetly I would hope no one would waste money getting a dyno after installing an intake lol. Smart people will know there are barely any gains, companies will lie about gains, and placebo noobs will mistake the noise increase as gains and tell everyone they can really feel the power now lol. Such is life.

Agreed. I know I wouldn't do it, but I'm talking about things like magazine companies, or vendors or whoever, that has connections or has companies that will offer to bolt up their intake or whatever else to get the company to stock their parts.

I know Modified magazine does a thing like this where they will take a baseline, then add parts one at a time to see what kind of difference it makes. Who knows, maybe someone has a buddy that works at a performance shop that has access to a dyno off hours for free. I know I would use it if I had connections. Some real numbers would make a good sale.

Nothing against RRM but I ordered those CF Tweeters for my 2010 Lancer GTS and THEY TOOK LOOK 4 MONTH'S TO FINALLY SHOW UP @ MY HOME. AND THEN THEY DIDN'T FIT AT ALL AND HAD TO TURN THEM

I got a call from the owner apologizing about all the trouble and told me that RRM doesn't make them they have a 3rd party that sells them the parts. I just told them don't say there are "for stock replacement (tweeters)"
