Magnetic oil drain plug

OK, since they only cost about $5, does anyone think it would be worth it to get one of the magnetic oil drain plugs? I would think that it couldn't hurt. Or am I just a sucker who'll buy anything?

they aare not a bad idea just don't rely on it to protect your engine just use it as a guide to see if there is anything going on in the motor. Small amounts of shaving can be expected especially in newer motors but if you see a larger amount then you know something is happening.

i think magnets are always a good idea, unless we're talking about computers, then they would be a bad thing to add

i would rather have the metal shavings collect at the bottom of the pan, or on the plug, than have them stay in the oil.

For $5 it's a good way to know if you're pushing shavings. Hell, for $5, lemme know where you're ordering from. I could definitely use that when I get my motor up and running again.

Vendor: Summit Racing Equipment
Product Line: Summit Magnetic Drain Plugs
Material: Steel
Price: $4.39

A catch-all drain plug that grabs metal. 1/2 in. x 20 threads, magnetic drain plug. This magnetic oil pan drain plug will catch metal particles before they get to your engine bearings, saving your engine from an early failure. Sold individually.

Is this the right size? I need to do an oil change, so I can measure the plug when I do it, but if someone knows of the top of their head, that would be easier...

Well, if you're serious, I'd consider it. Hell, I could even ship Hobes one...

I don't care how many magnetic drain plugs you give me, no means no!

j/p. If you're gonna order from Summit, make a big order. Free UPS ground, but $7.95 handling charge on every order.

Oh yeah. Been there, done that. I'll probably order them with my Camaro parts if I go Summit. But if I do get the 10, I can always kick ya one on the cheap.

Just holler. It'd be nice to confirm fitment before buying them though. Otherwise it's Ebay ahoy!
