Magnacore wires

OK, here's the story - I am thinking about getting some of the Magnacores from RRM, but given my current finances, second thoughts are creeping in. I got some iridium plugs and thought it would be good to get the wires and install both at once for the full effect. I live in Ohio and have read that some people noticed that the wires lessened the amount of time the car needed to warm up. It's just that $90 seems pretty steep for plug wires and the money could be better used elsewhere. Are these worth getting now, or should I just put them off until later?

hold off until you can do both at once if possible return the iridium plugs and get the nkg's but if not know you have grat plugs they are just a little more than the car needs.

I got the plugs cheap on the boards, so no worry there. I just can't decide if I should drop $100 on the wires or not.

I have the Magnecor 8.5mms (red) and they are great. However, if money is tight, this is not a necessity. Wait until the $100 isn't so critical.

And as a sidenote, should I just install the plugs now or wait until I get the wires?

go ahead and install your plugs. pulling wires isn't a difficult thing to do so you're not going to be saving yourself a whole lot of work doing it at once.

and just a side note, better wires do not equal more horsepower. all it allows is for more accurate sparking to occur when rpm's begin to climb and lessen the likelihood of misfires or detonation. in my opinion the ignition system is a critical portion of a turbo-charged system because it reduces the likeliness of detonation which is always something you have to worry about in a turbocharged car. In an NA car, ignition isn't as necessary due to the decreased likelihood of detonation since you aren't running compressed air. That's why I would say hold off on the wires for now, unless you're deciding to go turbo.

Remember, you're getting two plug wires for that price. That's the way it is for DIS. Cars w/ a distributor will have 4 plugs for about the same price.

Yeah - I'm not expecting HP gains or anything, just maybe a smoother idle.

No, I know that. I just mean that $90 is kind of a lot to spend on something that won't really make any significant gains.

And NTran999 - I PMed ya. Thanks.

i think drcimports has the 8mm wires(blue) for cheaper than 100,

if you are NA those would be just fine... 8.5 wont make a big difference

I don't know if DRC is still active. He never answered my PMs and I've seen a thread asking what happened to him. And as long as things go well, I'll hopefully get the 8.5mm Magnacores used from NTran999. But thanks.

You know...I didn't really feel a differsnce with the 8.5 wires in my car. In fact, it felt like it was hurting the power output. Could be that I am just ultra sensative and that the car was running fine. I have ngk platinums with 10000 miles on them and checked the plugs. The plugs were almost black. I think that indicates that it is not receiving full spark?? Recently I put the 8.5 back in to check one more time and I would get major misfire. Took them back out and it ran fine on stock wires. I think the iridium will prove a better upgrade although many seem to think it is unnecessary. They may not have many miles on their cars...I have over 20000 on mine. Or, maybe I'm simply wrong? Don't know.

Everyone is different. My dad wouldn't buy a Ford unless there was a gun to his head, but he'll throw whatever oil, plugs, oil filters, gas, parts, etc. In his car. Some people just don't think that the parts you use matter. Other people (like me) will only use Castrol, Edelbrock, RRM, etc. It's just about choice. As for your problems with the wires, I can't say. The black plugs don't sound like good news, though. Thanks for the input.
