Lancer OZ N/A Build , timing issues anyone help ?

Hi
Im From Dominican Republic

The list of mods

4g93 piston (81.5mm)
Intake Port and polish
3 Angle valve Job
Head shave .50
Oem Head Gasket
FPR w/gauge
4-2-1 Header
Cat Delete
Stock Catback
Ground Kit

My problem is in the timing advance, we check 4 times all timing marks and everything is ok, but i have 14 degree of advance , the stock is 5 +- 8....where is the problem ?---

The engine work fine, the problem is starting, i have a little detonation.

Thanks in advance.

Driving and all is fine, but you have detonation at start up? I think it might just be noise from the car starting up. Also, what do you mean as far as the timing, because the stock shouldn't be 5 plus or minus 8.....maybe somewhere between 5 to 8, but I don't know a lot about all that. I just set everything in ecuflash and leave the setting on the timing belt as stock.

Hornstar the ecu has a non adjustable starting timing of around what he's saying.

The advanced timing improves startup by allowing for easier ignition in the cold climates at the lower pressure point of the stroke.

once the engine is in the running state it resumes normal service so high ignition timing should only occur for like 1-2 seconds max. soon at the engine is above 250rpms it switches to the standard timing routine of 5 - whatever to keep the car at the desired rpm.

There is one fairly easy way to make it seem as if ignition timing is much higher though and that's simple you just raise the idle RPM up until it runs ok like 1000-1200 rpm or something would be my guess at 14 ignition timing.

This car have cams?

no, i dont have cams, im planning put 4g93 cam to increase a little bit of power...i think in other idea : force a little bit the cam sensor to advace the timing (the ecu can undestand this ?)

there are actually two timing marks crank and cam which changing one would be a bad idea. The car would probably read the situation as a misfire.

Why not just reprogram the ecu to have higher timing?

in my country i know only about 2 people make this type of tuning (Reflash),,,,its a little spensive 300 US....but i have no choice in this point.

I feel the car really good, i feel de the different with all changes, only its this issue, 4 of 10 times in the starting the sound like (knock or detonation)...

thats what I was thinking, because you shouldn't hear knock without the scope.

finally solved, new spark plugs with gap adjustment. No knock on power, I put the scanner and sensors in realtime, shows a timing advance of 5 + - 8 degrees.

its new for my this N/A mods, but everything its working, one more question, i set the air fuel ratio in 12:4 1 what is recomended for my setup, in my country the premium gas have 89 octane....

PD : sorry for my english,

When you say you set the ratio you mean via a wideband right? not just the AFR table in the ecu because they don't match to reality. You should always adjust the car with a wideband and just set the table to values until it corresponds with the desired afr.

With a NA setup its more desirable to run leaner but with lower octane fuel it will be knock prone so your 12:1 to 12.5:1 is probably the best bet. Race gas lean max power is at 13:1 just don't expect to get there with standard pump fuel.

of course Roadspike, i have one Innovate LM1 Wideband, now im set 12:3 :1 you know here we have bad gas.... im plannig go to the track, put VP 109 Octane and run little leaner 12:8.

still I have the fear of accelerating a lot with my current configuration ... I think the compression is too high .... I will measure the compression per cylinder to have an idea where this. for a reflash because here you have to pay US300.00, add gasoline racing (20US x 1 gallon) and also the use of dyno .... expensive lol
