Lightbulb Direct Short Ram(RRM) INTAKE

Its been 3 weeks, but now I'm finally done with the DSRI. Damn R&D is expensive as a son *****, but it was worth the fun, time and energy. Its hard as hell to make it though. It took me about 30 minutes to get the filter onto the adapter plate but other than that its easy as pie to do. You can check it out in the registry by clicking here.

It's a lubricating material put on threaded items such as bolt or in this case, spark plugs, that prevent the metals from seizing (read: sticking) together.

Looks great. Super clean, especially compared to the CAI it looks great, even compared to a manufactured short ram it looks great. Here's the pic of the original PVC CAI btw.

And the thread itself for those interested.

Cool setup. Did you use a 4 1/2 inch filter? Cuz if you did, I don't think the Injen heat shield would work because as far as I know, they only make it for 3 inches and down. Maybe you could use a 4.5"-3" coupler and throw on a 3" filter to fit the heat shield if you still want to go that route.

that looks nice man - - - whats that smaller filter on the engine block for?? and where did u get that cause id like to get that filter for mine too - - it makes the engine bay look a hell of alot cooler and does it have any performance gains at all??

It's an oil breather.

EDIT: Think of it like a short ram for your oil.

EDITED EDIT: Only backwards. (my bad) Make that a Mar Trohs.

I believe that's a breather filter. It helps release crank case vapors since the stock setup uses a hose to recycle it back into the intake which helps relieve the atmosphere of oil vapor but it can lead to a build up of oil in the low points of your intake system. So I guess it doesn't really increase power, but it does help prevent loss of power due to the intake getting all gummed up. It's not exactly street legal b/c it's breaking emission laws but hey, what are ya gonna do? That's my understanding of it, but I'm sure the more technically sound forum members could clarify or correct me. I agree though, it looks really nice in that setup that ya got there.

You're totally right. My bad. It doens't make sense to my why it's a filter though.

To add to (hopefully) Auto's rather well done explanation:

crankcase breather: A vent which allows fumes and blow-by gases to escape. It reduces condensation. This breather is usually connected to the air intake of the carburetor so that the fumes can be burned in the combustion chamber

blow-by: The mixture of fuel-air which is lost past the piston rings and causes fumes that form acid and sludge in the crankcase and smoking from the oil filer hole. Generally there is a loss of engine power. Most are removed through the PCV system.

PCV system: Abbreviation for "positive crankcase ventilation system." A system which prevents crankcase vapors from being discharged directly into the atmosphere. Also see closed crankcase ventilation.

PCV valve: Part of the positive crankcase ventilation system, which reroutes crankcase blowby to the intake manifold and back to the engine, where it is reburned in the cylinders as part of the fuel-air mixture. This cuts emission pollution and improve fuel economy because unburned fuel in the blowby is consumed the second time around. It also keeps the blowby and water vapor from fouling the oil in the crankcase, thus reducing the formation of engine sludge.

Cuz it looks really cute. Awww, look at the little baby filter! Oh, how precious! Instead of K&N, we'll call it k&n! Or maybe it helps keep the the vapors that are being released from being too toxic or maybe it helps keep outside elements from entering the valve. I never really thought of it before.

It's a filter because it also lets air in when the engine cools down. not sure for lancers, but on my chevelle the filter prevents oil from being shot all over the engine compartment
