03 Lancer ES - Bad CAS or bad timing belt?

Heres the deal, i was driving home about a month ago, and i was slowing down as i approached a red light. Light turned green, i let off the clutch, and the car jerked because the engine was no longer running. Tried to start it as i coasted, nothing, tried to start it after i got it off the busy road, still nothing. Push started it, nothing, tried to jump start... and still nothing. It just died while i was driving, no hiccups, no issues, not a stutter, just died while i was coasting to a light.

Next day i discovered the ignition pack for cyl 1 and 3 had no spark, but the pack for 2 and 4 did. There was also no signal getting to the fuel injectors, so it wasn't getting fuel either. Did some looking around online and saw that a bad CAS was a common diagnosis for this kind of issue. So i got a new one, decided i didnt feel like tearing the whole front of my engine apart to put the stupid sensor in.

He hooked it up to his scanner, it said the Cam Positioning Sensor was bad, not the Crank sensor, so he replaced it, and nothing changed. Now today my friend hears from him and i guess he put the CAS in and there was still no change. But now he said the timing belt is bad, and the teeth were just wore off.

Does this sound consistent to you guys? I dont know alot about these engines, most of my experience has been with the old Ford V8s.

Yup if any of the teeth go bad on the belt and the car jumps timing it will throw either a Camshaft position sensor code or crankshaft position sensor code . Hopefully it didnt jump to many teeth because then it could have damaged the internals of the engine .

Definitely timing belt.

Remove your crankshaft pulley and you'll see your timing belt missing teeth down there

Would it be worth going through the repairs or just replacing the motor all together?

Found an 82K engine nearby for a little over $700. Think im just gunna go with the swap. Probably be alot cheaper then repairing the belt, valves, resurfacing the head, etc.
