RRM SRI Minor Warning
RRM SRI Minor Warning
I'm throwing out this warning but would like to emphasize that I believe it's minor because it's the first I've heard of this, but if there are other cases RRM hasn't said anything and people deserve to know.
A new guy at my work happens to drive an 08 lancer and of course we started talking about our cars. Turns out he had the RRM SRI until one day the metal piece in the center of the cone filter came loose and got sucked into his engine. Had to have the car towed and it cost him a pretty penny to get it fixed.
I don't know if this is the only case, and I'm surprised to hear this because I have the same SRI and it has never given me any problems, but it's a pretty stupid thing to wreck your engine over. So with that said I'll be poking a web of tie wire through my filter (cuz I'm ghetto like that) as a web to catch the metal in case it comes lose lol.
Just fair warning.

It appears they do use K&N filters, though I don't know if that's what they've always used.
Also the site seems to show a filter that doesn't even have a metal part, but it's hard to say if that's the actual product you'll receive or just a generic picture from K&N.
So with that:
-Depending on how long ago you bought the SRI you may or may not have the metal piece on your filter.
-Depending on what RRM is using now you may or may not receive a filter with the metal piece.
-If you have the metal piece, K&N has a ton of filters and you can easily replace it with a superior cone filter (or you can be ghetto like me).
I really don't care enough to look further into this so maybe Rock will see this and clear things up. In the mean time if you're planning on buying an SRI from them I'd suggest you give them a call first and find out.
