New ECU? GTS in a ES
New ECU? GTS in a ES
I was told by my buddy that I am going to need to get a new ECU for my car. Well I have a 2010 Lancer ES but I can get my hands on a 2010 Lancer GTS ECU with the key for 200 dollars if I plugged that into my lancer would it work?
Thanks in advance for any help if any

I wouldn't bother. The GTS ECU contains a configuration for a 2.4 liter engine, whereas the ES and DE lancers both have 2.0 liter engines. And it would wind up costing a lot of money to have it reconfigured, as definitions for the GTS ECU are hard to come by (expensive).
I'm not a resident expert or anything, and this is just an educated guess, but in my opinion it wouldn't work.

Well that makes since just wanted to see and 200 didnt seem to bad for all that. I found a Ecu but would have to get it reprogrammed to match my key and that seems like it will be 200 almost in itself by what i know a new key cost in past experiences
ROM from the old ECU can be swapped in the new one if you have Tactric OpenPort 2.0 cable. It's easy and a basic definition file with just the ROM ID would work, no need to define tables, etc.
Regarding the swap of the ECU, you will need to rewrite the VIN code. This can be only done with MUTIII tool, so you will have to go to the dealership. Usually learning of the keys is not needed, but sometimes you have to pass this procedure.
