A/C Pulley

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about bypassing the A/C pulley. I was thinking a shorter belt, or i could take it out all together. But for track days, switching out the belts to free up some HP would be great. I dont know much about belt sizes so any help would be great.

you wont gain any, just "free up" some HP because of less belt travel. im not positive about that, but its something worth trying. and if you completely took out the A/C, itd take off quite a bit of weight.

intresting thought. maybe we should throw this one to RRM and get their opionion? the AC is pretty heavy and taking the load from that pulley would make sense in freeing up some ponies.

None, as mentioned. You would however get a little cleaner engine response, since you'l have effectively reduced the moving mass the engine is trying to turn. The weight you'll save won't be too bad, either.

This is the same reason Honda guys disconnect power steering pumps. They get a little bit more rev-happiness, but turning even a civic without power steering is like tilling a motorboat with a plastic knife.

Any time I've tryed this modification the damn engineers always stiffed my by integrating an idler pulley or alternator bracket or something to that effect. Not saying this is the case with this car but that's been my **** luck.

you need to take off the belt that is on there now rout it past the the pully your tryin to skip over cut out all the exctra slack and bring the belt to pep boys or whatever it is you get your parts from and get a belt wiht the same amount of grooves in it for the size

you could just take off ac and power steering at the same time and not have to worry about the belt im pretty sure ac and power steering are on one and the other belt is for the alternator

I have mine off I forget the direct measurements, but I deleted the A/C out permanently. you also have to an extra hex nut to go on the bolt + a lock washer and some teflon tape otherwise your going to keep losing your power steering happened to me a few times.

a hex nut to go on which bolt? the power steering pulley? did you do this before or after you went turbo, and did you notice any difference?
