09 Lancer ES CJ Auto - timing belt or chain?

I've just booked in for a service (105,000kms) and the mechanic said he'll have to check the timing belt because "in most mitsubishi's, the belt deteriorates around the 100,000 mark". Seeing as though I don't trust most mechanics and don't want to get rolled, I want to know if it actually has one to start with; and if so, how much am I looking at?

You have a timing chain, not a belt!
Maybe he was thinking about the drive belt. Check for wear the pulleys, tensioner and the rubber drive belt. Some of them may need replacing.

Just inspect the serpentine belt yourself.

No cracks? No squealing at start up? It is fine.

Just follow the maintenance schedule in the manual.

(and don't go back to those clownz! [rolls eyes] )
