Is it possible to change the timing belt setup on the Evo 8 and 9 to a chain setup?
I've been interested in one of these cars but I dont like the idea of a belt.... Read enough stories here regarding bent valves and I dont want to go down that road.
If I picked up a used Evo 8 or 9 I'd hopefully swap to a chain. I dont know much about these cars though and searching just finds the ones that broke

Not possible from what I know.
Belts are fine - as long as you replace and monitor. I have never seen a belt snap. The tensioner is typically what fails over time. That allows the belt to expand off the timing gears, thus bending valves and whatnot damage.
PS - mievo.net is your local group. Oh, and my car is for sale

The 4G63 is bullet proof and been proven for many years.
Timing belts are fine if you maintain them properly. All engines have problems now and then dosen't make it a bad design.
