does it even make a difference not having the "fake grill" on ?

EDIT : If so, is it worth it?

This weld also broke on my Injen Intake. I contacted Injen. They know of this defect, and have redesigned the mounting system for our intake. The new ones, have a bracket towards the very bottom of intake.

don't really know if it makes a huge difference. other than it might help get slightly cooler air in, but you also deal with turbulant air, since it's not really "ram air" per say. instead of cutting out the little square in the plastic piece between the engine and that little space where the filter sits, i just removed that whole piece, hoping to get more of a constant, steady flow of air through there when driving at higher speeds. also kinda helps dissipate a little engine heat. but in the winter time i notice more of a difference since the outside temp is drastically different than the engine compartment temp.

i also replaced my Injen filter with a Tenzo filter. where the Injen filter is blocked off at the end, this one is open. says it's supposed to create a "funnel effect" on the air, making it enter the intake more straight-ahead, rather than just being sucked in hap-hazardly. i did notice smoother acceleration with the Tenzo. sorry to ramble on and get off topic.

peace
