Egr delete question

Hi all,

I have a question out curiosity about egr delete question.A while back I covered the egr opening of my car, after the egr has been removed, but I was wondering if a car would work when you remove the EGR completely and don't cover the EGR opening with a delete kit.

Always wanted to know that, but never found a good answer.

Thx in advance

1. EGR is helpful for performance. it cools the cylinder temps (it's true - google it!) and lets you run a more advanced timing.
2. EGR connects the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold. If you leave the exhaust open it sounds like azz and may cause hot gas impingement on something important (i.e. melt a wiring bundle). And it would leave an intake port open that bypasses the filtered air (lets dirt in) and lets in unmetered air (bypasses MAF) and would cause the engine to run dangerously lean at the same time cyclinder temps are elevated (se #1). Lastly, it would generate a CEL (which you would ignore - but when something else crops up - you won't know it because you already have a light). badbadbad.

So if you persist in removing the EGR - please block off both ports. Please report the imapct on performance (if you can measure it - it won't be much).

Cool Thanks for the answer Veronica.
That cleared things up for me, I was really curious to see what would happen and couldn't find a good answer.
The EGR was already removed and the openings are covered, so far I had no issues and the car is running good.

Thanks again for you reply, really appreciate it.

I have a small update on my car, it is running good, but i have noticed that my car oil level drops, like it burns a bit faster.
Looking around I saw where I covered the EGR valve there seems to be some oil sludge build up, like oil is seem out from the egr valve delete.
Is this oil leakage from the egr valve delete caused by back pressure in the intake manifold?
Just to clarify, there is no egr pipe also, it was never there when i bought the car, so I had a custom made plate cover made to fit on the opening that is on the in take manifold for the egr pipe.

Physically removing egr valve without altering the ROM to take this into account is not a good idea.
When egr valve opens, ROM increases ign advance considerably. Without the added exhaust gas, that ign advance is way beyond what can be handled so you will get knock and overheated combustion temps. There are also calculations done on how much gas flow via the egr valve is bypassing the MAF measured airflow - that will affect AFRs.
