System Too RIch

Well, I don't know whats up with my car, but periodically the CEL will come on and then shut off. I went down to autozone and got it scanned and it said, "System Too Rich." Now I am thinking... this could be a good thing, but I don't want to ruin my fuel economy. Also if its way to rich, my car wont run to its full potential. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on this? How do I get rid of that CEL?

The only mods I have on my car are a weapon r-intake, full catback exhuast, and RRM PB?

This also started occuring after I put on the PB... So maybe that is why... I'll give RRM a call today.

I also think it is because of the piggyback because I get the same thing. Keep us updated on this.

Update: around 90 miles the CEL comes on, I call RRM and they explain to me the various reasons of why it could come on and that it isn't harmful to run rich, they told me to wait a while longer...

so i waited... n all of a sudden around 120 miles it disappeares
so rite now no CEL and i am happy

Really, it turned off? Hmmmmm, I guess I'll try driving it for a little longer and see if mine goes off. I've never seen the CEL actually turn itself off before. I am getting the same code as well. Guess I'll just wait and see.

little green men in ur engine are just toying with u...like that pepsi commercial in the superbowl when they flicked the soda machine on/off.

RRM recommends to sauter(sauder...however u spell it) the wires together for a much more secure bond. maybe every once in a while ur wires get a little loose connection or something. but u said u checked hundreds of times so i dunno.

It's called soldering and consists of melting a conductive material in and around the copper wires so there is a good bond and no loss of signal.

Just an update, my check engine light went out. I drove about 150 miles before it went on, and when I got home I parked it for a day and used my friends car (just because he has a Mazdaspeed Protege). Next day I turned on the car and the check engine light was out. I took my car to a shop because I had a frozen caliper bolt that needed to be jarred loose. I'll keep updating though.

Mine goes on and off randomly with the header, testpipe, catback with the CEL eliminator. Used to stay on all the time before the eliminator, now its on less than half the time. No pattern that I can see either.

This is definately a weird occurance. There have been a few cases of this happening and i'm working on solving it. Everyone with this issue please pm me and list your mods(engine/exhuast/intake) so that i can see if there is commonality between them. Currently i've caused this to happen by adding fuel at idle until the ecu couldn't take it out. While idle/fuel economy/performance is not being effected the CEL should not be coming on like this. The reason it will go off is the occurance is temporary and once the fault is corrected the ecu will clear it after it hasn't been logged in a while. I've pretty much think i've got it figured out but people with this issue please pm me with your info so that i can be sure. Also let me know if there are any issues with the cars performance, idle, etc. Seems nothing is going wrong in these areas just the CEL light coming on. Thanks guys. RRM is hard at work on resolving this and it will get resolved.

Boe, My CEL went out again, but it was like 2 o clock in the morning after prom. So i am guessing its due to the cold air and because of it my car has to run rich with the cold air. Any wayz I still gotta drive my car today, so I'll c if the light came back on.

Also, I haven't put in my headers yet

This is 100% correct. On Sunday during the autocross the temperature was about 60 degrees out at the beginning of the day and my CEL was on. At a point in the day the temperature dropped by 15 degrees almost instantly, it was quite freaky. Soon after that I did my run, went home for a bit, turned off the car, and when I came back to go back to the event, the CEL was off. It is still off now, and the temperature has not gone back up (it's still in the low 40s).
