amen. i think if you're seriously going to try and drive through water deep enough to submerge the filter than a boat would be a better investment. even with the "fake grill" removed from the front, all that happens is the water that makes it in to your filter just washes off the oil that's on the filter and you have to clean and oil more frequently. and you might have to pick out a few rocks and bugs.

It's fine man. It would have to be completely submerged and act as a strw to be able to suck water UP the piping.

driven with Iceman CAI (no water bypass) for five years and the roads flood pretty good here. No problems ever.

So, since the general consensus is no bypass is necessary, does any one want to buy my bypass?

Think of the principle behind it..... since air mass is lighter than water mass, it will suck air before it starts sucking up water. (think of a straw with the tip only half in a cup of water). If you completely submerge it you will start to draw water and the engine will have to work harder to pull that mass up the entire intake pipe too.

you guys are like tony(bobyboba) thinkng that you dont need a bypass and you can run over water all smooth and nice...rain is fine but if you hit a puddle then you have the chance of getting water in it..1-2hp is not a lot..and is definately worth the $900-1000 that your gonna spend on your new engine when it get hydrolocked...i have had my AEM CAI wth bypass on my car for awhile now...and no problemsid rather be safe than sorry...

u notice a loss in power teamnexus?

I've had my AEM CAI intake for 4 months now...so far no problems thank God. I've driven when it rains, i just stay away from puddles. I'm like swirving, juking, doing wutever I can to dodge them. I asked my friend who was following me if I went over this big puddle that I saw after i parked my car, and he said yeh. Also I've driven in really heavy rains too but I get skerd, and drive home right away. I might invest in a bypass valve cuz winter will be here soon...i don't know how badly the CAI will take the snow.
