Yup, BOD is where the quote came from. I think I may need a shorter quote though. Thanks for any comments about my attempts at contributing here on the forums.

If there is one thing that our Lancers do well, it's warm up quickly. With a warm up catalyst fitted in the exhaust manifold, it acts as a kind of heat sump, accumulating and holding heat close to the engine. Of course this setup sucks for performance, but if you live someplace where winter is a b*tch, it's kind of an asset. I was up in Maine a few weekends ago and it was nice how quick the car had good heat.

As I put in another thread, I'm going to be reading carefully once a few posts from those who went the RPW header route.

When I start my car in the morning.. or after its been sitting for more then a few hours, the engine revs up to about 2300-2400rpm.. it sits there for about 2 seconds then falls down to 1800 and sits there for about one min. And i dont think it ever idle's below 1k.. maybe 900..

I took it to my Mitsu dealer and they wouldn't service it because i installed the RRM header.. they said it voided my warrenty, and thats the reason why it idles so high.

any suggestions? Is this normal? Is the mitsu dealer correct about the high idle? what can i do about it?

If you can, take it to another dealer. The header (as far as I know) shouldn't affect idle in the least. Even if you can convince them of that, my guess is that they are idiots and you'd rather not have them servicing it. Replacing it really only voids the warranty on things it can affect, like maybe the O2 sensor or obviously the first cat. Perhaps it'll take longer to warm up, but it should eventually get down to a normal idle.

I never have to wait very long because when I start my car in the morning it's 70º outside. I noticed it takes a lot longer for the RPM's to go down in mid winter.

Everybody here in sunny California says 30-60 seconds is sufficient in this weather, although the engine still seems to run a little cold after that, so I wait at least a minute and then drive conservatively for a couple of miles. Seems to work for me.

Itll take about i minute of idling for the engine to start to warm up in any weather.

In the harsh winters north and east... ITs always good to let the car warm up for about 5 minutes. Plus itll warm your clutch/tranny up and will lead to less possible issues with those parts

It takes me about 3 minutes or so to let mine idle until the needle hits 1000K rpm. I let it drop there and after the car is warmed during the day it idles at like 700 rpm or so.

As for people having problems with getting cars serviced. I have never had a problem getting mine serviced. It's only exhaust work and most of the mechanics seem enthusiatic that I have upgraded my car slightly. (I have been to 2 different dealers) It idles around 700 rpm so do like it has been suggested and take it to another dealer

It sounds like you need a tuneup and new spark plugs.

Peace
