EMS?? Which one does what?

ok i have an safc-2 i know what that does, fuel and fuel only.
i have been reading about the aem ems unit. what does it do exactly. it looks and sounds pretty freakin nice from what i understand. its basically a compleast engine management unit right?? what does the e-manage do exactly?? i am asking all this because i have a stage 2 cam and it needs a better unit i think. i might go haltec but before i do that i wanna know about this ems unit.

It's a standalone ECU. It does everything. The best descriptions you're going to get will probably come from the manufacturers' websites.

The E-Manage is the midpoint between the SAFC and standalones like the EMS. The E-Manage allows you a lot more points of tuning (16x16 grid that you set the rpms for on one axis and throttle position which the E-Manage reads on the other axis). If you're looking for something to help with your air/fuel curve with that new cam, I'd suggest you get at least the E-Manage, as I doubt the SAFC can handle the amount of change the cam creates.

I dont' know the specifics on the RRM piggyback, but the E-manage is a powerful piggyback. It allows the addition of a pressure sensor, ignition control, additional injectors etc. It's not as application specific obviously, but (to the best of my knowledge) allows additional flexibility which the RRM piggyback does not. Conversely it will definitely be more difficult to tune and, while undoubtedly able to give the same benefits, is probably not as user friendly.

If i order the emanage by GReddy, will it come tuned? Or will it autosense? Just wondering if ill have to tune it myself when i get it or if it will make its own settings for default.....thanks

None of the above. The emanage out of the box is completely untuned with no maps or settings on it. Once you get it installed it won't make any changes to the ecu's readings until you start tuning.

Is there a manual tune on the emanage or do you have to have software?

you have to buy either the screen for it or, if you have a laptop/take it to a dyno you can plug it in and it makes it obvios exactly what settings would be best. i am installing mine tomm, that cam has been given me hell!!

You can manually dial in changes but I HIGHLY suggest getting the support software and using a laptop. There's no comparing an actual interface with excel-style spreadsheets for changes versus turning knobs and going off of blinking lights for confirmation.

Jesus, Kelspar. Take a little initiative and run a web search or two. You can find them at just about any performance shop that sells Greddy products and/or engine management. I wouldn't waste the money on the screen. You're better off bringing an old, busted laptop with you along with a 12v adaptor or power inverter.
