I have some questions regarding ECUs and when and what should be done to them. For those of you who saw my other post, this is regarding my car (2002 Lancer) that only has a CAI on it. I need to know at what point in time do I need to replace my ECU and I need to know a good reference for who can do it. I live in Indianapolis and I don't think there are any shops around that do that kind of thing. Right now I'm wondering about the throttle body/intake manifold/header/exhaust upgrades. I've heard some horror stories of people upgrading things on their cars and then their ECU flips out because it doesn't understand the changes so it actually cuts horsepower or does other non wanted things. I don't understand the ECU/fuel maps/dyno/computer controlled tuning thing very well. Like I said, if this has been covered or if someone has a good resource for this it would be appriciated. Thanks.

well today i took my testpipe out. n put the stock cat without rebootin the car so i actually stalled out. but thas bout it. so i duno bout it flippin out as long as u reboot.
I am running a RRM intercooled turbo kit at 6 lbs of boost with the stock ECU (for now, going stage II soon) and I have no problems with my car what so ever. Your ECU should be fine with the mods you listed. But if you want to take full advantage of them, get the RRM piggy back ECU, it will definitely make a difference.
If you do not want to go that route, go with GReddy E-manage or AEM EMS. Kinda silly to go stand alone with what mods you listed, but if you ever plan on going FI, then you'll have a head start. Just some info, hope that helps.
