im looking at getting an intake for my lancer and i was wondering if this intake would be a good idea to buy or not

What matters most with a CAIs are three things:
1) Placing the filter where it will be drawing the coolest air by moving it away from pulling in engine heat which will always be hotter than outside air. Another way to screw yourself on this is putting it too low to the ground because that makes it easier for the filter to get wet/pick up asphalt heat.
2) The materials used, you want the tubing to be as heat resistant as possible, the cheaper CAIs will not be lined with anything to prevent this and I believe it is something Injen stresses they do to their intakes.
3) The filter. I don't care what system you end up getting, make sure it has a K&N and go buy one if it doesn't. They perform better and last longer and are pretty undisputed when it comes to the "best street car air filter" question.

The one in the picture is of the short series that I don't like as much because it will be pulling the air across the engine before taking it in thus making the air hotter. From what I've seen Injen has good material and a good drop height from the engine, then again I use a K&N and it works fine but I'm still going to do custom relocation tubing to move it farther away from the engine.

 

I have this intake and it doesn't bother me one bit. I like it because it didn't cost as much as others. Now, granted there is hardly a horsepower gain, but it sounds great!!!!

 

I used the piping and got a KnN filter with a heat shield, and its workin really good, pretty good gain

 

I got my CAI from Ebay and it works perfectly.
Even HP gains suprised me.
And you are not going to tell me that tubing really matter because
when you have such a cold air coming out of the filter
it will cool off the pipe anyway.

 

Hey i have it and it sounds great i even have a little more kick when i hit the gas.

 

thinking of buying one of these as well...... just two stupid question though...installing one of these will the CEL light come on? and also did you guys notice any gas mileage increase?....thanks

 

The SRI is not bad if you have the EVO VII hood scoop on right side leads right to it and if you put a custom hole in the injen heat shield for the stock intake from the front you should get some pretty good air flow!
