Lancer ES upgrades

Hey im fairly new to all this. got my lancer ES 03' around feb of this year and decided i wanna have a little fun with it. a lotta my friends race a lot just for fun and i usually go to them for advice n stuff but since they dont own a lancer id rather ask here.

So i decided the other day i wanted to start upgrading the performance of my car (making it faster etc etc) and since im pretty new to all this i was wondering where i should start. i dont really care much about the looks just yet! (body kits, rims and what not). id rather take care of the things that are needed most. but what id like to know is where can i find some good quality stuff for cheap $$? thats of course if its worth upgrading this car. ive heard some people say it isnt really worth it but i guess it wouldnt hurt to try. thanks

Look around, read the US Lancer upgrade path. There's a ridiculous number of threads with the exact same questions in them. All the info's there, all you have to do is look for it. Good luck, and welcome to the forums.

start off with an intake ( there all about the same, with about the same gains, just make sure u got a good filter), then go with a catback, then a header.

There u got ur basic I/E/H.

Next theres a whole bunch of crap u can do. Like hobie said just search a bit. Are u 5spd or auto? That could determine what u could do.

Also decide on whether u would wanna go turbo, or go naturaly aspirated! good luck

Welcome and good luck. Your prices are going to be abit higher for this car as compared to a civic or some other well known car b/c these are fairly new to the US consumers. I think the first model was, correct me if im wrong but, 2002. So not many parts have been made by a ton of dealers. You could pick up a ebay intake and just swap out filters, also check out homemade mods like a groundwire kit (cost me about $5). Again just search around, theres a ..... (Get ready for this)...cornucopia of knowledge around here all you have to do is search....

well i was browsing the front of the "us lancer general page" and read up on some posts saying turbo isnt good for fwd so i guess that would be something to worry about later.

my car is an automatic though. got my car from carmax and thats all they really had (me and my dad just went to pick out a car and didnt really search around but i think thats all they had available). i wanted a stick at first but i guess its all good.

i have 5k saved up but of course i dont plan on wasting it all on the car lol. i will spend $$ on stuff that is worth it and i know will improve my car a lot. its just a standard ES automatic. nothing special i know, but i dont plan on getting anything else anytime soon unless i hit the lotto.

just to keep it in the thread, i do have one last question. If i wanted to increase the start off speed of my car, what would i want to buy? sry for the story and again thanks for the replies

Uh for start off speed, you'd want intake, tb, im, and ecu upgrades. If you really want to you can go turbo which'll give you the biggest gains all around, but its costly.

Groundwire kits should help as well as SRI (short ram intake). Total cost (after replacing filter unless you buy one with K&N hiflow)..... 75+?

Here is a couple of sites/pages that I've found very helpful... hope it helps.
Dictionary of Terms - A dictionary of terms widely used. Includes acronyms and abrevations.
RRM - You want it they got it. The guys at RRM have a really good rep here on the boards and they provide by far some of the best customer service and proudcts for our cars.
Upgrade Path - Follow the Yellow brick road my friend. It's all there.

On a side note: Decide what you want to do. Speed, Style, or Suspension. Or go for all three. Make a plan and stick with it. And remember, the only stupid question is the question unasked. Go Bananna!
