i didnt read everythin that was said here but u got to the appraisal guy(however u spell it) he takes pics of ur car n writes downt he damage send u a quote of the prices of the stock parts n the paint n labor n with it a check. thas how it got done down here we got almost 3 grand. but the rest is to you. hope that helps any bit. cuz i jus keep hearin sorry to hear dat sorry that sux but thas a lil info i kno. n u can prolly get it done to another shop if u dont want that dealer to touch it. your right.

Update:

Car is totalled. Waiting for insurance to decide what to give me.

Subaru might be out of reach with a $3K insurance gap looming. Might have to go to the ultra darkside.

by the way, the reason the car was totalled was that the battery burst, spraying everything metal in my engine compartment with acid. That is what pushed it over the limit. I would highly recommend a battery relocation if you plan on being in a front end collision.
