Want a short shifter, but which one?
for reference, I do not have an adjustable shifter. For those you will have to notch the housing somewhere and there's a guy who's reporting having trouble getting in to first with his adjustable shifter.....
so now you have more to choose from

One other idea. My buddy did this in his civic after he put an integra type r engine into it. He just took a saw and cut 3 inches off the actual stick then put an after market knob on. The bottom of the knob actually sat at the same height as the console. It looked really sweet. He said he didn't have any problems with shifting either.
I heard with the 45% throw you had to do some slight alterations to the plastic on the car to make it fit right... is this true? I was going to go with lancer shops because I have heard nothing but good stuff about them and they are suposed to have the easiest install (from what I have heard)
Yeah, with the B&M, you have to cut a little 2 inch piece out of the shifter base. That is only if you choose the 45%. It is no big deal, it can't be seen. It is definately worth the money. B&M is a company that is known far and wide and i wouldn't want to go with anything else other than what I know is a very reputable and experienced company. Go to the evolutionm.net home page, and look at the b&M short shifter install. It has the instructions and detailed pictures of what needs cut. It took about 2 hours to install for me, just because I was being extra careful. B&M is definately the best choice.
I didn't need any extra lube because my shifter was HELLA greasy when I took it apart
B&M is a known company and does have a reputation.... and that's what you're paying $110 for- a name and reputation. How did B&M get that name and reputation? Some kid all those years ago said "you know, I don't need to buy a mopar shifter and modify it at home for $200.... this B&M company already has a kit for $50, I'll give that a try"
Whatever direction you go, please, for the love of all that is good and sacred in this world, do NOT cut that shifter down. (it sounds like you're a reasonable fellow, but other reasonable fellows I've met have cut their shifters down and have ended up with crappy shifters. One guy kept missing shifts so often in his civic that he broke teeth off of his 2nd gear) <<off soapbox>>

From what I've read on this site, the B&M and Lancershop are the ways to go.
Good luck with your purchase bro.

I also have the Ebay short shifter. I've had mine on for about a year now and I have been quite happy with it. It is easy to install and reduces the throw of shifts quite dramatically. The only problem with it however is that it does not come with a knob. I actaully made my OEM knob fit by taking out the plastic spacers in the shifter. I also had to remove the leather shifter boot's plastic hanger that holds the boot up. But it works great.
I say go with the Ebay short shifter and buy yourself a MOMO shift knob... works good, looks good, and is cheap as hell. By the way lithium grease only costs like a buck twenty five.

ebay short shifter......15-30 bucks for a good quality shifter. You need to go buy lithum grease to grease it up with but that stuff is like 5 bucks. It's a lot better in my opinion than forking out $100+ for a "name brand shifter". I mean after all....its just metal anyways....not like theres a ground breaking design difference in any of them.
