Am I Screwed?

Ok, i have a lancer es and i installed a oz speedometer on it and the mileage went from 45,000 to 7,000 when i installed it. i dropped my lancer off to be inspected today and i am just wondering if im screwed in getting it passed because of the mileage change.

i think you can get certified at a speedometer shop. just show them both the speedometers and they'll write you up a cert.

That means some dumbass totalled his fwd 120hp OZ within 7,000 miles.... that's pretty hard to do, unless it's someone elses fault.

You are screwed as far as CARFAX goes. They get mileage reports from all 50 states inspection stations. Sorry to break the bad news to you. You should have thought of this before having the vehicle for inspection.

Your mileage should be stored in the ecu and im sure if u took it to mitsu they could help you. I had my speedometer stolen and mitsu was able to get the exact mileage out of the ecu, so u are not screwed, just might cost u a little more than origninally thought

When I had a 2000 Z24 the speed o went out on me. I got one from the junk yard to replace it but it had 30k more miles on it than mine. I took it to a licensed speedo shop and they adjusted the odometer to match my old one. It costed a hella less money than if i would have taken it to a GM dealer. The speedo shop charged me $150 while the chevy dealer wanted to charge me $500+ and thats before labor charges.

AFAIK the mileage is stored in the guage cluster itself, hence why when you swapped them the mileage changed, as has been posted, take both speedo's to a shop and have them certify the mileage for you
